@Mark_Boulter It’s a solid, practical ask, fundamentals like better streaming catalog browsing would complement the flashier AI dreams. bump those old feature threads if they’re still alive!
this is one of the most requested “simple but missing” features in Roon history a proper “Play Random Album” button or album-level shuffle mode, where it picks a full album at random from your library (or filtered subset) plays it straight through in order, then jumps to another random one. No track shuffling—just whole-album playback with album randomization.
@Mike_O_Neill Shiny toys are fun, but fixing these fundamentals would retain the die-hard users who actually pay the sub long-term. A true box set overhaul (nested views, super-album structure, easy disc selection) tomorrow would make more difference to folks like us than half the new features combined.
UI customization. Give us the possibilty to change colours so it becomes more readable and give us the option to hide some section that are of no use and are only distracting. The whole UI is outdated, give us customization.
Audiobook support. (.m4b support, save progress when switching to other audiobook or music, etc.) Sounds a bit odd, but I’d like to have music AND audiobook in one place, to be able to switch between them conveniently.
There are longstanding feature requests on the Roon Labs Community forums for exactly these things:
• Customizable home screen (toggle/sort/hide sections)
• More granular theme options or full color pickers
• General UI refresh for better personalization
Would love to see Roon enable it properly, it’d make voting actually feel impactful.
Any other wishlist items burning a hole in your pocket for this year?
It’s already possible to sort by votes. Not that it means anything, but it answers your question for the total of Roon forum users.
Automatically replacing streaming albums with new versions and carrying over metadata (edits, play counts, …).
Plus, independently, the ability to copy metadata between albums, so that if I added credits to one album of an artist I don’t have to redo it all over again if they release a new album. (Such a copy feature, if it also copies play counts, would also go a long way to fixing the automatic replacement if this isn’t feasible).
Generally, correct metadata, but as this is not feasible, let me hide albums from a Discography and artist from credits (without adding the albums to my library, similar to how global bans work). This way, at least I wouldn’t have to look at ridiculously incorrect assignments all the time.
Edit: And let me make every track a composition even if the property is missing from the metadata services, so that I can group it as a recording of the composition.
For me - simply a proper integration between Roon and ARC - the ability to transfer a Roon listening session to ARC and from ARC to a Roon client seamlessy so music just continues as I listen at home and then leave the house. Actually the other way is more important - I listen to an album on ARC and when i get home these days I either have to continue with my phone and ARC to finish the album or have to fire up Roon on a client, scroll down to find the current track I’m listening too and listen to it from the beginning (or adjust the time slider to match ARC) - I just want a “continue playing on ARC/pick a zone” option on Roon clients/ARC.
The UI is fine for me, I tend not to customise much on PCs etc anyway, I worry about AI intrusion - certainly I don’t want Roon to turn into some form of Spotify. I’m happy with Roon not providing my music streams - gives me the choice between Tidal/Qobuz or whatever and if new streaming services come along in the future I’m free to select them.
Or have some choices here. I end up using the BlueOS now playing as it’s built-in my NAD amp but I would like to have this if I ever change from NAD to something else.
Cheers Brian, this is such a frequent gripe – I’ve seen it pop up loads in the forums over the years (there’s even an old feature request thread from 2022 still going).
For now, the clunky workaround is keeping ARC open in the background when you get home and manually switching zones, but yeah, it’s far from ideal. @Brian_Jones1
DSP presets are already implemented. Add a DSP preset selection box to the edit album screen and store it with the Album. When playing an album or a track from an album apply the DSP.
When removing a DSP preset warn the user if that preset is assigned to an album.
Personally, I don’t see the value in DSP per track, it would break gapless playback if a single or multiple tracks in an album had DSP processing.
There are probably some nice to haves other users would bring up but this would be a simple start and those who want it could work around it’s rudimentary implementation.
