If Roon added ONE dream feature tomorrow, what would it be? (2026 edition)

I’m curious what’s the single “if only they added this tomorrow” feature that would make Roon even more indispensable for you?

Their own streaming service so I don’t need Tidal and Qobuz.

You’ve made a very good point here Jim, for me I think True multi-user / family sharing with collaborative playlists and personalized profiles would be a massive bonus!

For 2026 it would have to be decent AI integration.

Hey Roony, play me the top 10 uk singles from this week in 1978.

Hey Roony, play me what are considered the 5 best tracks containing Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

Hey Roony, play me the 20 most seminal house tracks from Chicago in the 80s.

Hey Roony, make a playlist of all the Bay City Rollers top 10 UK chart singles.

And AI answers these queries and sends them to the roon queue.

Yep exactly my dream feature too. I know there are extensions that do similar but I’ve never really been satisfied with them.

I don’t do streaming so it would have to work with local libraries too.

Smart Playlists are a small step in that direction. But the scenarios you described are what I dream of doing!

“One song from each Grammys best new artist winner since 1960”
“Play Wes Montgomery’s last studio album”
“Generate a mellow jazz playlist”

Library synchronization across multiple locations. I have three licenses for different locations, I synchronize music files with standard file sync products, but I would be delighted if Roon was able to sync its library data between Roon servers. For example, I just added a box set in one location, which required a little bit of library metadata editing. I’ll have to repeat that in the other locations when I get to them. I know, I could stop Roon server, backup library, transfer backup, then stop another Roon server, and tell it to read that backup. But that is clunky and error-prone. In addition, the different sites are different in their endpoints and listen stats. I just want music metadata held by Roon to be in sync across all my Roon servers.

Decent Box Set Integration as promised 2 yrs ago

seriously though creating a new wish list when the fundamentals are flawed seems odd

probaly the new list will get done before the old ones !!

Browse by label, search by label that is not limited to what’s in my library.

it’s basically the same dream a lot of us have for Roon in 2026: proper, built-in natural-language AI that feels like chatting with a super-knowledgeable mate who instantly builds and queues playlists from your library (or streaming if you use it).

I completely agree this would be game-changing. Right now, Roon’s search and Smart Playlists are brilliant for structured stuff, but they’re rigid compared to what modern LLMs can do. Imagine saying (or typing) to “Roony” :+1:

@chrs8519—those extra examples you gave are spot-on for why this would be massive, especially for folks like us who lean heavily (or exclusively) on local libraries. No Tidal/Qobuz dependency means the AI has to be smart enough to query metadata, credits, album info, genres, and even play history within your own collection first, falling back gracefully if something’s missing (or suggesting close matches/alternatives from what you do have)

@Fernando_Pereira, this is such a practical and frustrating pain point—especially when you’ve got multiple licenses already set up for different spots (three in your case, sounds like a proper multi-home setup). Adding a box set, tweaking metadata/edits (artwork, credits, identifications, whatever), and then knowing you’ll have to redo it all manually at the other locations… yeah, that’s the kind of clunky workflow that makes you question why you’re paying for premium software.

A “play random album” button, or album shuffle (as an alternative to track shuffle) in playlists.

Album shuffle is not a complicated luxury but actually a basic standard feature since iTunes/foobar and it’s baffling that it’s missing in Roon.

@Mike_O_Neill, spot on—and brutally honest. The frustration is real: we’re in a 2026 “dream feature” thread wishing for shiny new toys like AI playlists or multi-site sync, while a core, promised fundamental like proper box set integration still sits in limbo after what, 2+ years?

+1 from me, let’s bump that old Chromecast ARC thread too if it’s still alive!

I just get peeved when I see dev effort going to shiny new toys when I can’t even navigate a 20 disc set without having memorised the contents and position.

Equally the disproportionate effort that goes into ARC but I guess Harman has skin in that game

What specifically draws you to Presto over Qobuz for classical? Catalog depth, discovery tools, or something else? @Mark_Sealey

@Granosalis Gemini integration for Roon would be a smart pick, especially since Google’s AI is already powering natural-language control in so many ecosystems (Google Home, Android, etc.) and it’s fast/affordable via Flash models.
