I am a new user of Roon and use both streaming services and local files.
I have noticed that Roon seems to be taking incorrect release dates from both Qobuz and Tidal, e.g.:
Damien Jurado’s recent releases are listed on Qobuz and Tidal as November 7 (when they were first made available on these platforms), while on MusicBrainz they are listed with the initial release dates from Bandcamp.
So does Roon adopt the release dates from streaming services without further verification using other databases?
It has the release date of the version as November 7, which may well be correct for the streaming versions, but it has no original release date, which should be the Bandcamp date if it‘s earlier, I guess.
I don’t know why doesn’t import this date from MusicBrainz, I guess you have to ask Roon Labs in the Support > Metadata category of the forum. (They don’t monitor user discussions here in the Roon Software Discussion category).
In any case, though, dates are often imprecise, e.g., the release date is entered as original release date or vice versa, or there are other issues. You will often have to edit them if you are picky about this, and luckily we can.
