We are wanting to put a 2TB hard drive in the Nucleus One that we have and wanted to know which SSD to get?
Our client has all of there music on a SS USB drive right now and we want to move it over to the nucleus internal SSD. Instructions on how to do that?
Describe your network setup
We have a ubiquiti gateway, Core switch, and AP's All computers, NAS, drives are either connected to Roon via USB, and all Network drives are connected to Core switch on the network. All drives and Network connected devices are all on the same VLAN / subnet.
For the internal storage drive (which should only used to store local library media files and is thus used, typically, as a write once, read many drive), the Samsung 870 QVO SATA drives are a good choice. The 870 EVO drives are also good but, for this specific application, probably not worth paying any premium for. For more general use (where the disk is much more regularly written), the EVO drive may be reliable in the long term but this would not apply to typical use in a Nucleus or other RoonOS based Roon Server.
In order to move an existing local library to the internal storage, the following procedure should be followed:
Install the SATA drive in the Nucleus One and power on with the existing USB storage device connected.
Format the internal storage drive in the Nucleus One using the WebUI
Important: In the Roon Client go to Roon → Settings → Storage and remove the old library location from the set of watched folders to prevent the same files being seen in two locations at the same time. Note: The Nucleus internal storage HDD/SDD is automatically watched so does not have an explicit entry on this page.
Stop the Roon Server in the Nucleus One using the WebUI. This prevents, Roon Server from scanning files whilst the copy is in progress and thus getting confused by partial copy states.
Using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder (or any other tool on a separate computer), copy the files from the old library storage location to the Nucleus internal storage (\\nucleusone\Data\Storage\InternalStorage [Windows explorer] or smb://nucleusone/Data/Storage/InternalStorage [Mac Finder]). Note: when connected to the NucleusOne, a USB connected HDD or SSD will appear as a separate folder under \\nucleusone\Data\Storage or smb://nucleusone/Data/Storage
Where do I go to format the internal storage in the nucleus one webUI?
I get an error message when trying to login to the “nucleusone” in the mac Finder after plugging in this address: smb://nucleusone/Data/Storage/InternalStorage. I tried guest and login with guest as username and password and I get the same error message.
Do I want the external hard drive to be connected directly to the computer I am using to move the files from to the nucleus internal storage? or is that drive supposed to be plugged into the nuclues USB port on the back during this file transfer process?
Try smb://nucleusone or smb://Nucleusone.
Guest Login with guest as user and password ndeed.
Your Data folder should be mounted then and one of the folders in it will be Storage with Internalstorage inside.
You can have your USB drive connected to your Mac or Nucleus.
It’s not visible until an internal 2.5" SSD or HDD is installed and then it will appear with a “Format” button. The drive first needs formatting before it can be used to store local files…
