@SandsOfArrakis , it’s the fan noise that people need to avoid (assuming the fan runs and is loud enough to hear). Most of us with NUCs simply put them in the cabinet with our router, Synology etc, so they can’t be heard. But the One screams “put me out in the open!”; time will tell how loud the fan is. Cheers.
The question was about „issues on quality of audio stream“ though
@Suedkiez , thanks. I’m done.
The trouble is fun of course. I also have a NUC in an Akasa and it’s cool, (figuratively and literally!), but was it less than US$500 to put it together? Loving the steady dive in price for better sound that is going on - Wiim have certainly revolutionised the lower end of hi fi - and its great to see Roon Rock being more accessible for more people.
I would like a British release at the same time as US one, and free delivery for us too
I think this is great news, when I saw the Nucleus Titan and the price and the fact the standard Nucleus (which I have) was being discontinued I thought Roon was excluding a lot of people from their set up, this solves that Apart from the fan which might add noise I wonder what, if any, are the sound compromises from this Nucleus One compering it to the standard Nucleus ?
None, why would there be any. (Apart from maybe not being able to use the more crazy DSP settings)
Hmmm the title of this thread is dubious. I got my new 11i7 minipc for £335 brand new, with 16gb ram and it runs Roon server superbly, it’s significantly cheaper than the Nucleus One and most likely faster.
Fixed that for you!
Well compromises in general my standard Nucleus was £1699 this new one is £499 i assune you must be losing something in quality/speed/features ?
Nah, the title already contained the right words, just in the wrong order for clear modification.
Instead of “the most affordable Roon server ever made,” it should read “the most affordable server Roon ever made.”

I like that Andrew, consider it changed and hope Jamie goes not disapprove
The nucleus is just overpriced to begin with, there is nothing special with it.
Yep that works better and more to the point.
The older one had a fancy fanless case, this one has a fan. This is probably most of the cost difference. Maybe being part of Harman they can also bear a slimmer margin and have better access to cheaper manufacturing.
Both are recommended for up to 100K tracks, so performance is probably comparable. Computing power gets cheaper all the time.
As for quality, it’s digital, i.e. binary numbers. Just as online banking with an expensive computer doesn’t change the bank account numbers compared to online banking with a cheap computer, this doesn’t either
Factory direct distribution only or through audio store dealers as well?
Ok it all seems pretty good news then, except perhaps the fan but I bet the noise is very negligible, not that I need a nucleus atm as I have the standard one and that’s working great, but if I ever have to replace it then it won’t cost too much. I know there are lots of other options that work as good as the nucleus and are cheaper but the nucleus is great if you just want to plug and play like I did
Yeah, and the price of this one is much more palatable than the original Nucleus. According to Jamie above, the fan should be virtually inaudible.
Yes just wish it had come out 18 months ago before i bought the standard version lol
I have the same qualms with Cambridge Audio. Bought a CXN V2 last year, and a DacMagic 200M in January. Then less than a month later they release the CXN 100 streamer…
Oh well… Such is life I guess.
