iPad App doesn't Sync with Mac?

I’ve got Roon running on Mac mini, controlling with iPad App.

I was playing music controlled from the iPad, when I decided to browse from the Mac mini & change the track. The new track started playing ON TOP of the other (2 tracks playing at the same time…).

The iPad App didn’t update.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
Could you hear both tracks playing to the same zone or did you just see the other tracks playing on the Mac Mini screen.

If you only saw them, then I suspect you did not select / forgot to select the right zone on the Mac Mini.
Thus the first track was playing on zone A and the new track playing on a different zone.

Note: Roon Remotes are independent of each other and can control any zone on the system.

Hi Carl

Yes, both tracks were playing through my HiFi.

That’s very strange I’ve see another reports like it.

  • Are you able to screen shot the signal path from both Roon devices and post on hear?

  • Are you able to reproduce?

I’ll drop a flag for @support to follow up.

Hi Carl

Yes, I’ve just done it again. Got 2 tracks playing right now.

I’ve taken a screen shot on my iPad, obviously that only shows one song. I can’t take a screenshot on the Mac mini, because that’s playing via TV, but I’ve taken pics of me holding the iPad in front of the TV, so you can see both screens. Also taken video of a speaker & you can clearly hear both songs. Just need to work out how to post them? Do you have an email address I can send them to?

Now one possibility. I may have done something wrong. When I installed Roon I somehow downloaded 2 files. So if I look in my Applications now, I have one called “Roon” & one “RoonServer”.
When I linked Roon on the Mac to my NAS, then downloaded the iPad App, at first the iPad wasn’t seeing my music. I then realised I had 2 versions of “Mac mini” to link to. I linked to the other one & it worked.
I don’t think the problem is due to the above, because only one instance has Music attached, but I mention it in case it could be corrupting things.

This blows my mind. Not that I’d do something like this. At least on purpose. But would love to know how this could happen.

Hi @Strummer ---- My apologies for the slow response and the troubles here. I just want to make sure I am understanding the issue you are having, as well as the gear you’re working with.

Could you please confirm the following information for me.

Setup:

  • Could you give me some insight on your “HiFi” zone. What gear is being used and how it’s communicating with the core machine?

  • Your core is running on a Mac Mini (Specs?) which is then being controlled by an iPad (make? Model?).

Issue:

  • The issue you’re experiencing is when you kick off a song from your iPad (which is being fed to your "HiFi zone) and then go over to the Mac Mini and select a new track, the new one plays on top of the other one already being played, to the same “Hifi” zone. Correct?

Thanks!
-Eric

Start a post and click the upload icon (looks like an arrow pointing up).

My Setup is :

Mac mini (mid 2010)
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB 1067MHz DDR3
OSX El Capitan v 10.11.6
TV as monitor.

HiFi is Devialet D250
Currently fed by Mac via USB
Will switch to AIR

IPad mini 2
32GB
iOS 9.3.5

Basically, I was listening to music, controlled from my iPad.
I went to change the track from the Mac mini. It just played over the top.

The attached Pic shows my TV & iPad together, showing different tracks playing.

Hi @Strummer ----- Thank you very much for the screen grabs and the clarification, both are very appreciated!

May I kindly ask you to please provide screen shots of the “Audio” tab found in settings on your core machine (Mac Mini) and your remote (iPad mini2) as well. Thanks!

-Eric

This is the iPad display. How do I find the Audio tab?

Hamburger menu (three horizontal lines top left) > Settings > Audio

Aha Eric, I think you’ve led me to the problem…

Oh dear, now I’m confused…

Just clicking on the Zones icon. I saw that the TV (Mac mini) was displaying “iPad” and my iPad was displaying “Living Room”.

I went to make them the same & now the Living Room option is gone. I just have “iPad” & “Unnamed”.

My iPad appears to be working properly now to some extent. When I press Play/Stop etc… It’s controlling the track on the Mac mini, but you can see the iPad display is confused. Showing Aphex Twin up top, but the Goldfrapp track below.

I’ll be the first to admit I shouldn’t be allowed near computers!

Please put up a screenshot of your Audio tab (see my post above on where to find it) – it will most likely clear up the confusion.

In your last screen shot you are looking at the Aphex twin album and the bottom of the screen is showing what is playing…two separate things altogether.

The bottom bit of screen showing what we call the ‘play queue’ can show you any play queue that you have in your system (think multi-room for example).

Your screen shots show different zones…the zone you named iPad is curious as iPad isn’t a music zone itself. The iPad is just a handheld Roon remote effectively. It can control any zone you have.

When you say music plays over the other music…can we just check you do mean that out of the same system you are hearing a mash of two songs simultaneously ? Not just that you see the screen play queue with different songs?

Thanks guys!

I don’t actually remember naming a zone iPad. Not saying I didn’t, but don’t remember doing it…

Yes, the 2 tracks play together. I’ve got video of this, where you can hear the two tracks. I’ve been trying to upload it.
