Is there a way to save the current state for listening?

Hi.

I wonder whether there is a way to save and restore the current state for listening.
For instance, I was listening to a classical music box set, which contains 15 disks.
During work time, I would rather listen to some pop music, so I divert from the classical music I was listening to before.
After work, I want to continue listening to the previous track and perhaps the playback time I left off.

However, I tend to forget where I switched to pops.

Is there a clever way other than taking notes?

Thank you in advance!

I usually move it to a queue of a device I am not currently using and move it back later on. Not perfect I know, but it does get the job done for me.

Of course it does require multiple Roon devices be available

You could select all tracks unplayed and add to a playlist, or as Michael says transfer queue to another audio zone in Roon. If you only have one audio Zone you could set up system audio or HDMI on a Nuclues to be zone and transfer queue to those then restore it later rather than add another unit.

You also have history, so you can see the last track you played.

If you have queued the entire 15CD Classical box-set but you want to listen to something else for a while, simply highlight some pop music and “add next” instead of “queue”. The remaining Classical tracks of your queue are preserved at the end of the pop tracks you have just added. Roon doesn’t delete or overwrite them. You can just keep playing the pop tracks until the Classical tracks come round again or when you are ready you can scroll through the queue until you get to the Classical tracks and “play from here”. I do this all the time.

Thanks for the ideas.
I play music through HQPlayer, so transferring to another zone doesn’t work.
I usually use an iPad to choose/play music, so I will use my iPhone to preserve the current state temporarily.

This is what I do. In the past, I used one of the unused HDMI audio devices on my NUC, and named it “Hold Queue”. Nowadays, I run Roon in an unprivileged Pod (container), so this option is no longer available.

This won’t work if you’re using the same zone on another device. Adding to the queue for immediate playback is destructive. The only way is to move the queue to another zone. I don’t use HQP, so maybe post in the HQ Player category.

I see. All devices sync automatically, so it doesn’t work.
My misunderstanding.
So, I created another zone that appears on the Audio device list and one that I don’t use.
This works, and now I know how to resume previous music playback.

Many thanks to all of you!

Same here, I transfer the queue to my phone as I turn end points off between using them.

Turning off a zone doesn’t destroy the queue, since it’s stored by Roon Server. As soon as you power on a zone, the queue will resume where you left it.

Yes I understand that, but I can’t transfer a queue from my raspberry pi in the bedroom to my chord poly that is switched off downstairs, I transfer to the phone then transfer to whatever zone I decide to use later in the day.

I use two variations that may be helpful.

  1. Create a playlist with all tracks from the set then delete those that have been played.
  2. Use the tracks played counter. For large box sets, this may be the easiest solution.

Maybe just play from a different user … I have 2 users one is my wife but you can have as many as you like

That’s a perfect solution.
I never thought of it.
Thank you so much!

That won’t work as the queue is on the device. If another user plays something on the same endpoint, it will destroy the queue.

The only safe way is to transfer the queue or use a playlist.

You might be right on that. But at least the Que added by will how where you left and the other profile started

Each profile inherits the queue for a given audio device. It can’t be preserved in this way. All you will see is who added tracks to the queue.

So, the same gotchas apply. Unless music is added to the queue, it will be destroyed.
