Is this setup correct?

Hi, I have purchased a NUC from an ebay seller specialising in Roon NUC’s. It has a 256 M.2 drive on board and a 500gb 2.5"SSD. It would appear that ROCK is installed on the 2.5" drive as when I remove it, so I can change it to a larger SSD, the NUC won’t boot. The main Rock screen shows the 256 M.2 drive as unformatted music storage. Surely this is wrong and TOCK has not been installed correctly? If so, how do I fix it? Cheers.

This is a choice during the ROCK installation process. In order to install ROCK on the M.2 drive you will need to boot from the ROCK installer USB stick and select the M.2 drive from the list when asked where you would like to install ROCK. This will be a complete re-install and both drives will end up getting reformatted.

That seller sure looks like a true NUC specialist.

Especially so for Roon NUCs!

Thanks Guys. I have installed ROCK on the M" drive and all seems to be well. Just need to transfer my files across from my windows server backup to the NUC. Looks like it might take a while.

That’s why I prefer external storage: no need to copy tons of data around.

Yes, I get that, but I am replacing an old NAS and need somewhere to store my flac files that are easy accessible to ROON. My server, that holds the backup uses a lot of power, so I just want everything on a cheap to run NUC.

You can still use an external drive with NUC, although I agree it may be more convenient to put everything in one box.
