Isn’t there a way we can block trolls?

Isn’t there a way we can block trolls who have been making the same negative points for years

In your profile you can choose to block specific users, you need to manually type the username in of the person you wish to block and choose how long you wish to block them.

It is also possible to click the user’s avatar to open their user card, then click again in the user card to go to their profile, and then there is a menu top right to ignore/block this user.

I see no-one has answered your post yet but

You can also click on the three dots below the message and then on the flag in the menu that pops up
This way, in the case of really stupid troll posts, the post can be blocked by moderators or automatically with a certain number of different user complaints.

Yeah but this shouldn’t be used just because someone disagrees as was the case here

If you look at some older threads you will see users who the FORUM has blocked for things like being too antagonistic or taking up too much moderator time etc . They are few and far between .

The best way I find is stop “arguing with a troll” , that’s what they are after , take it away and they eventually go away , if no one joins in the argument why bother. I must admit I am often tempted to stir for the fun of it :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

I’ve tried to block my mother-in-law, aka “The Troll”.

Nothing works :man_shrugging:

Be careful here, a ban might be issued if you waste their time moderating the forum :face_with_peeking_eye:

I normally restrain myself and let them rant :sunglasses:

Number one rule…don’t feed the trolls! If people stop replying or reacting to those that only divide…the conversation ends before it begins.

Very droll

Making the same negative points for years is not quite the same as a troll in my opinion, especially if the negative points are valid. So your best option is probably to block individual users, as suggested.

Years ago I was trolled by someone because I had been unaware Ethernet equipment had little transformers across all four twisted pair inputs/outputs. I used an incredible amount of self-restraint not to link to a clip from “The Big Lebowsky” where The Dude says “You’re not wrong, Walter, you’re just an a**hole”.

Maybe turn them to stone

The easiest way is to start a cable thread and block everyone who posts.

Personally I think cables matter on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, but not on the other days of the week. So I spend most weekends trolling myself.

I dont like this at all. This is not a place for censorship. If one doesn’t agree with something one should be allowed to say so…however many times. If YOU dont like a poster then you can block them personally. But it should not be a WE thing IMO. I am a Mod on a kitchen knife site and we rarely censor or stop people from commenting unless it is clearly spam or just nasty. Negative comments are as valid as positive ones.

I happily leave the blocking decisions to the mods. If there’s something I don’t like, I just move on.
