Has anyone had any experience with running Roon and NordVPN. I cant get it to run when i have the VPN connected.
I also have run it again with the Treat protection pro off its still will not play.
I have also an error message:
Error loading page
please check your network connection :
When connecting to Qobuz.
have no error message on Roon it just skip tracks and font play them
I am based in the UK
I have disabled Threat Protection Pro and Roon then seem to work
I have enabled split tunnelling and made dns server exception for zRoon and Qobuz.
I use Norton anti virus no ad blocker or other VPN
I have emailed Nord over the past 3 days still no solutions. Now waiting for the next suggestions
I thought i would ask the zroon community as some always seems to have an answer.
I’ve have the same with Proton (mobile). It appears that when I’m on my home network, my phone will tunnel straight out and then can’t reach the Roon server since it doesn’t see the inside network. When I turn it off, I can see the server just fine. Both my iOS and Android device suffer the same. Mobile versions don’t appear to have a setting for split tunneling in my limited checks.
I’m working on figuring out the secret sauce for Roon Arc. Tailscale on iOS works well (can’t run Proton and Tailscale at the same time). Still working on Android. I haven’t spent a lot of time with it yet.
Sounds like you’re using Roon on your desktop computer? Is the Roon server on a different piece of hardware than your desktop? VPN on my desktop (Nord and Proton) seem to work okay with the Roon server on my local network, both PC/Mac/Linux based and Nucleus One appliance. But I definitely have to disable it on my mobile devices when on my local network.
I too am currrently working with Nord support. I believe it is a recent software update pushed by Nord as everything was working fine until recently. The problem is that while I can access my nucleus through the desktop app (windows 11) and have access to my library, I am unable to play any tracks. Both my computer and my nucleus are connected to my WiFi router via Ethernet.
Nord had me manually set my DNS address to their recognized address 103.86.96.100 in windows network settings.
I then added this to the DNS Server address in my nucleus networking settings and rebooted both the nucleus and windows.
I opened the Nord vpn app, added my Roon app to split tunneling and selected Disable VPN for selected apps.
I then had access to both the nucleus library and streaming.
Unfortunately, a failure occurs if I log out of windows or reboot the computer. I am back to square one and have to uninstall Nord then reinstall Nord and follow the above steps again to gain access to streaming. I am making progress but still need to figure out how to keep the connection stable after logging off or rebooting.
I should mention the desktop app will push music from the nucleus to other devices on my network, just not the computer on which it resides that is connected to my nucleus and has Nord installed.
Update- I am continuing to work with Nord tech support on a solution. Typically one attempt per day due to time differences. Still unable to connect to my Nucleus while Nord VPN is running or started but paused. I did find a work around while “tinkering” on my own. I found that if I go to the VPN settings and disable auto connect and then reboot or log off & log on to Windows 11, Roon is fully functional but as soon on as I connect to the VPN I lose the connection and am back to square one until I reboot or log off again. I will mention that I am able to control other Roon devices on my network through the Roon remote from my desktop, just not my computer audio on which it is residing. The down side to this is it is one or the other, not both.
Final update - Nord support is now telling me that they are aware of the problem and described it as a LAN issue with Windows based computers that should be addresses in a 7.37 update.
Glad to hear that Nord has acknowledged the issue. I’ve been struggling for about a month now with my Roon server/system. Completely disabling NordVPN seems to typically do the trick, but it has been ridiculously inconsistent. I’ve also had issues with a bunch of other applications as well. Whatever update they did about a month ago really screwed things up.
Happy to report that NordVPN seems to have resolved the issue as promised. I was running Roon successfully over NordVPN without any specific configuration until recently when I encountered the issues described in this thread. Tried configuring split tunneling, without success. Disabling Advanced Threat Protection also did not work. Disabling NordVPN was doing the trick, but unacceptable as a solution.
Recently updated NordVPN to v7.38.1.0, configured split tunneling, and now Roon works perfectly with NordVPN active for all other apps on my network.
Specs:
Roon Server running on Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.3775)
Roon running on Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.3775) on 3 different computers
NordVPN v7.38.1.0, Advanced Threat Protection enabled, Split tunneling enabled for Roon.exe, RoonServer.exe and RAATServer.exe
On my end, Split Tunneling worked before the update and works still. BUT I still need to restart both NordVPN and Roon every time I open my computer from sleep.
Without Split Tunneling it does not work at all. So all in all, the issue was sadly not resolved in any way.
Nord VPN finally released the update 7.39.1.0 and now I am not having any issues accessing the Roon desktop app or my nucleus with Nord VPN running in the background. I did not add the Roon app to split tunneling and I am able to run Nord’s Threat Protection Pro with out any issues. Hopefully it stays that way.
