Last update, my two systems sound flat

Hello everyone, i have been using Roon on a R.o.c.k for almost two years now. I have two systems one for me and one for my wife. Both are sounding flat, as compared to CD and Qobuz app. Listening to Roon and the same files from NAS or Qobuz they are just not as enjoyable are they were just a month or so ago. My Hifi rose out putting USB or Coaxial to my Spring 3 Kte doesn’t sound as good as it once did. I use the same Spring 3 I2S from my PS audio memory player(CD) player sound so much better. My wife is a HiFi rose using the internal dac is also flat. But if we stream using just Qobuz it sound much better. I would rather use roon with all my play list. But i end up using cd as the sound is so much better. Please let me know if there is any thing i can try

Weird. There is absolutely no difference streaming directly through Qobuz app vs. streaming through Roon on either RS-250 or RS-520. For that matter there’s no difference playing my own tracks through Roon vs. hunting them down through Rose’s internal player.

If I turn convolutions on in Roon there is a difference, but it’s an improvement.

Are you sure you don’t have any DSP enabled in Roon, and/or any processing settings enabled in Rose. Or, since you’re using an external DAC (not sure I’d personally do it with a Rose), does that have any settings that could have changed?

Can you post a screenshot from Roons’ audio path?

Ok! And you’re sure using the same EQ-settings while listening direct stream?

Probably the effects described here, Roon is only 1 tiny part of the equation. Noise, emotional state, power delivery etc.

Your using volume leveling which will make the output lower goign to the Rose so they wont be volume matched. Ensure both inputs are volume matched any differnece in volume has a phsycoaustic effect in that louder sound better.

You’re using volume levelling, two bit depth conversions and EQ in Roon. These will not be used when going direct from Qobuz or your CD transport.

What’s the EQ in use, can you post a screenshot?

Try turning all of that off in Roon and see if it sounds the same (or better) than your other sources.

The EQ shows on all Rose devices for some reason, they misundertood Roons requirements its not in Roon as its after RAAT. All things after RAAT are on the device. Same issue NAD have for their amplifiers showing as enhanced instead of lossless when nothing is happening. Roon seems to assume EQ is on even when it’s not. I would ignore that.

Yes no custom EQ and roon is actually a tad bit louder then the CD or Qobuz. I really hope to find a solution. Last night, I was listening to Qobuz and the app sucks compared to Roon. I may just have to live with a little less SQ. I love how Roon built a custom play list of the music i like, it will be hard to do with out.

I use rock direct to me RME ADI 2 and have not heard any changes at all nor via any other endpoint connected over network. Same as it always is in this regard same with yesterdays update.

It’s more than likely some setting in your streaming chain that introduces SQ differences if any at all. I see you perform volume leveling before RAAT. I would start by turning that one off.

That has been fixed for quite some time though.

Did they roll out a firmware fix? Perhaps he’s not upgraded it yet.

Yes, couple weeks ago, I believe (was reported in the Rose thread here).

Thanks guys, with everyone"s help, it is back to sounding great. Installed the Rose update and the EQ symbol is now gone and the tubes are happy again.

Again thanks
