Once again time for one of my all-time faves.
EDIT: BTW just ordered this on vinyl (yes!) as there is (was) one more available at jpc here in Germany…
Congratulations and I have to say I am a little bit jealous as I looked at ordering it a Few times.
Really is a great album
Way too expensive, but I just love this album. Anyway - I’m looking forward to it.
I will be hoping to find a post sales bargain and expecting to be disappointed
the prices for vinyl are just crazy - but never mind
I remember first hearing this live album & recall being a bit disappointed. I had seen them twice previously & they were dynamite on both occasions. Oddly enough I felt the live album was little more than a ‘best of’ and rather similar to album versions. So, over the years I’ve not played it a great deal, even though I’ve never stopped playing Luna (and I know some around here do also).
However, today I listened and thought WoW! Yup, it’s like a ‘best of’ & there were always good live versions 23 minutes to Brussels & Double Feature/Friendly Advice to name two. The latter track I always thought demonstrated The Feelies band connection. Today, I thought just about all tracks were great!
Live 2001
I followed it up by playing arguably their least liked album (according to reviews I was checking out & meta 66%).
However, I always liked it and thought ‘Side A’ almost as good as any other. A few dodgy tracks therafter such as ‘The Slow Song’. Nothing against Dean singing in German, I’m just not a fan of the track. Sweet Child O’ Mine I used to think was wasted filler, but it does work with some lovely guitar especially toward the end of the track
The Days of our Nights (1999)
Been getting into this…not sure what genre it is & I have seen it posted here at some point. I hear echoes of Nina Simone, along with some early Gil Scott Heron sort of playing contemporary folk music.
Kara Jackson
Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love? (2023)
Here’s the 7+ minute track Rat.
Edit: This session was recorded Christmas Eve 1954.
listening to Kara on Bandcamp, great suggestion! I feel a purchase coming…
Nice!!
The Blue Nile
I’m not sure why I own 2 Blue Nile albums - this & Hats. I recall not liking them at the time and after quickly listening now I’ve not changed my mind.
However, I had no idea of the backstory until just now reading the review:
Linn demonstration track/album.
The recording certainly does have that pristine and tight sound often used to demo speakers. DR9 according to Roon, I had assumed higher.
A Walk Across The Rooftops (1984)
- last “grocery run”
- hunt for very special sneakers SWMBO “really needs to go by the new trousers”
- wrapping gifts
- she’ll find more
Father Christmas trip for the girls today:
Fancying some Level 42 funking this morning and I will follow that up with some Kara Jackson that sounds like a great suggestion @Nostro
Genre is always over rated and easily beaten by good music.
