Honest answer is: no idea.

All is good at my end, I’ve sent an email to the dev in charge. I see Ron’s cloud services have issues this weekend so maybe it’s an overall slowness issue causing metadata request to time out. Daily Picks missing and slowing overall performance - #23 by Geoff_Coupe

Thanks. Still intermittent errors for me, here, right now. Shows the error for a few mins, then shows correct data for a minute, then back to error.

Alec,

After you have add my station Radio Bergeijk, you have also changed the Metadata Source in my stations settings (I’m also Curator). Since you’ve done that my station showed Metadata Service Error ETIMEDOUT in Roon and all Roon Endpoint. I’ve removed the Metadate Source in my stations settings to solve the problem. Please don’t change it back to your service and please remove Radio Bergeijk from your service.

Hi Ron,

Radio Bergeijk has been permanently removed from radio-metadata.fr and therefore from Roon Metadata Service. It will now stream natively (no metadata as of today in the stream).

W.r.t the ETIMED OUT bug, I hope Roon can solve it at their end. I f they can’t - no answer to my multiple emails - I will simply stop the Roon service, no service is better than a buggy one.

Metadata on my streams including FLAC are working fine without the radio-metadata.fr service. It suprised me my station was added to this service anyway? Everything was working fine until I saw the Metadata Service Error ETIMEDOUT errors on my endpoints. It took some time to find out why, then I found the metadata changed to your service for my Radio Bergeijk. Is radio-metadata.fr an independent service or is Roonlabs involved?

I’ve deactivated the Icecast public pages http://Radio-metadata.fr:8000 for security and server load reasons. Radio France stations with metadata remain accessible under:

Roon users continue to benefit from the service within the app of course

Hey @alec_eiffel, I stumbled upon your metadata service while trying to get icecast metadata for radio france and I’m very happy with it, thank you very much!
Many icecast streams also send album art URLs using the StreamUrl field as described here. When I view the metadata on the website or using the api I see a url under the data.cover field, for example as of writing https://radio-metadata.fr/api?id=fipreggae shows:

Would it be possible to also add the StreamUrl there with the same value as present in data.cover? This way many clients will pick up on it and show the image. I hope this won’t cause too much load for your server, luckily the clients will just fetch the image from radio france

I wish I could, but for various reasons this is not possible on these streams with Icecast 2.4.4. It will work the day I upgrade to Icecast 2.5, but I am holding it: Icecast 2.5 is not yet validated/part of Ubuntu repo, and has some annoying regressions that would generate rework.

Alright, I’m happy to hear it’s planned for when you are on icecast 2.5!
I noticed on Ubuntu 26.04 icecast 2.5 is in the default repositories. On my machine:

$ sudo apt install icecast2
> ...
> Get:3 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute/universe amd64 icecast2 amd64 2.5.0-1 [484 kB]

No hurries though, upgrades and reworks take time
