I’ve seen topics about building playlists using AI one way or the other but I had an experience I’d like to share with you guys.
As I was admiring a new piece of equipment I was left wondering at the real impact on sound in my setup of said piece. I asked my favorite LLM to challenge the purchase and evaluate any potential gain in quality.
The conclusion was quite clear: I was already beyond the quality my ears can perceive and I would have to spend tens of thousands of euros to maybe hear some kind of improvement. Now it did point out that there would be a psychological effet… albeit temporary.
It did offer something else: to enjoy my system better, I should listen better. And then it asked for my last « wow » auditive discovery and offered to dig into it and search for more « wow ».
I said « go » and we went into something akin to a musical psychoanalysis that turned into an extraordinary musical trip.
As in anything worthy in this world, it does require work: « talking » to an expert with infinite knowledge of music and the time and will to get to know you. it is fake but it works so well, much better than something statistically similar that gives you « meh » discoveries.
Have you guys tried ? Have you experienced something similar ?
For 150,000 years, the only thing we have ever talked to is other humans. Your brain assumes the Ai is another person. Guarding against that is bizarre and fascinating.
I had an interesting music discovery interaction with it, but I wish it had been with a real person.
Yes I wish I could have found someone to make that journey with. I suppose that is the next best thing.
Plus I must say the way it dug into my taste, really felt like someone caring to find what it is I like in music. That is rarely found in people who find it easier to suggest artists and genres with at best ok results.
You want to fight it but I must say it is the single most useful and enjoyable thing that’s happened to me musically-wise in years.
and satisfying: having a wow moment after an introspective effort is way more satisfying than another piece of overpriced gear.
I had that same kind of conversation the last two days with two different LLM’s. One of them has been more on the motivating side to buy that new piece of gear (T+A HA 200 headphone amp), while the other told my to save my money because there wouldn’t be an improvement worth that amount of money compared to my existing gear. Both were so kind to not bring my age to the table.
Some weeks before I asked them to give me some tips for music to test two different headphones and the results had some real nice inspirations.
Thanks for the contribution regarding the use of LLM. So far, I had used it to explore ways in which the listening experiences could be further “optimized”. However, my question to LLM related to the technical components of the plant. Although this was an important experience – for example, I then took measurements in the room in which I listen to music and was then able to bring about further positive changes through various measures – I had not yet tried the LLM survey regarding “listening”. Olivier, thanks for the message. Then I created a prompt and formulated exactly what role the LLM should take. Then I picked a title from an album where I had a „wow experience" while listening to it. The most interesting experience was to be clear about it and to write down why you had the wow experience and what influences it was due to. As a result, I have been conferring with LLM ever since and receive suggestions for pieces of music, “listening instructions” etc. I am somewhat impressed by the results of the “conversations” with LLM and quite enthusiastic about the music recommendations and the evaluations that are then sent to me. Today, due to the last music suggestions, I will complete the 7th listening session. So thank you again for the tip to use artificial intelligence for “hearing” as well.
Yes, I love how LLM’s offer yet another way to explore music through diving deeper into « what we like » about those pieces that trigger « wow » moments. And how it renews my love for listening rather than artificially creating it by buying another piece of gear.
