With “Logitech Media Server” that provides support for the Squeezebox products, now becoming “Lyrion Music Server”, as a formal open source project, supported by its community, perhaps Roon could revisit their support status for Squeezelite, a client of LMS.
And give its only lineart in Device Management configuration.
At present this is just the default artwork, a per the screenshot below, and the actual endpoints cannot be selected. Also when OPRA is used, there is no overwrite for headphone icons.
I had raised this as a feature request many years ago.
Raising the bit rate support from 192 to 768 would be appreciated as well. Lyrion supports this now without any plugins.
Roon really needs to address sound quality as many are switching to Lyrion or Jplay. Using Roon’s UI with a Squeeze endpoint is a sound upgrade but still not as good as Lyrion.
As someone who only discovered LMS again this year, I use it alongside Roon (and very occasionally PlexAmp) mostly utilising Ropieee on Raspberry Pi’s and generally use them interchangeably.
Not the subject of this thread, but I have mostly been very impressed with LMS for music selection and Playback, but it fails against Roons discovery and automated library management at least in my mind and I spent several months tidying up my metadata to work better with LMS and Plex Server. It’s now a part of my automatic process before I sync my music.
It would surprise me if Roon improved the management and use of Squeezebox endpoints, as it is just a small feature to use a device that isn’t yet Room Ready. It would be great to see it improved and expanded though and it would certainly make me happy
The problem here is that Squeezelite is a moving target, Squeezeboxes were not. There are lots of different flavours of Squeezelite and it can be run in a varirty of ways not all function that well with Roon at all. I can see it adding in more support woes, the regualr SB devices dont always run that smooth with it.
Was looking on GitHub, and Squeezelite at 3.3.7 hasn’t been subject to much change.
My request, was more taking it from an ‘unsupported’ module with default endpoint lineart to supported with the regular Squeeze endpoint lineart, so when used as an endpoint with OPRA, the endpoint graph behaves properly.
At present I have to overwrite the endpoint with a ‘location’ icon for my SonoreUPnP Bridge-driven endpoint, so it doesn’t display the headphones symbol when using an OPRA filter.
And it is not possible to have multiple endpoints for the same hardware, irrespective that it is used for both speaker and headphone listening.
