Lola Young - shock, surprise, delight

Blimey, this is magnificent - don’t dismiss, like i thought…

Huge score on Meatcritic (so what…?)
Played a track, got distracted, would’ve clicked ‘Stop’
Distraction left it playing… Oh. That’s quite interesting

Title turns out to be very apt; definitely not for a 60 year old bloke!

But, if there’s been a Venn diagram overlap between me and a young lady (since I was in my 20s) this is bang in the middle

But those it’s one of those LPs where you go
This is the best track
And then
Oh, This is the best track
Etc Etc

It’s excellent

Um. The lyrics are proper R

Thanks for the heads up! I really liked her first album. “Don’t Hate Me” was an earworm for a couple of weeks, but the whole album is really great. I look forward to checking this out.

Great songs and a great sophomore album! Building on strengths but still making it real…and boy is she good at keeping it real!

That said, I think the mastering is horrid. The drums are absolutely compressed to where they don’t sound like drums much anymore. I can handle far more compression than the average audiophile, but enough is enough. Bummer. The songs and production deserve better.

Maybe that production style is like Vocal Fry is to me - I can’t bear it :grimacing:

Revisiting after your observation

Agree about some aspects of the percussion mix on some of the tracks

But it’s not jazz, overall it’s a good blend

I think he ‘solomonophonic’ has helped make a very enjoyable LP

My ears, my taste, my system etc

You weren’t just flexing?
