No, I wasn’t able to get it working. Edited a few circles in 1x-1 and 2x-1 but never found the right combination. May give it another shot this weekend, since 911 is now installed.
Make sure you’re not changing any file extensions. PNG for the graphics file and none (not .txt) on the colors file.
I still cannot get it working 
Whatever circle I try in both ui_nnn.png files, I have no success, while previously it was just a matter of a few minutes.
Can someone share their modified ui_nnn.png files?

I had given up on squircles a few updates ago, but after seeing this, I gave it another try. @mpd’s download did not work for me in 943. But I tried editing just the 1x-1 (Windows 10) and it worked.
