I upgraded to version 2025.04 (2363). Afterwards I lost access the external WIFI dongle (Edimax EW-7811UTC). I then downloaded a new copy and re-flashed to the micro SD. Still, no access to the dongle. The onboard PI4 WIFI is accessible and functioning. Below is the generated log file.
Thanks.
John
I am experiencing the same as John on the same endpoint, except my dongle is a WiFi 5 Realtek 802.11ac (USB 3.0). The Ropiee recognizes the dongle (as it always has) except now: I hit play on some music, it starts playing, and about 10 seconds later the dongle wi-fi connection cuts out.
I tested using the dongle on all Pi USB ports, with different DACs, as well connecting to a mesh network and a non-mesh network, all with the same result. This dongle has been working correctly for over a year until now.
External USB dongles are 99% of the time based on the Realtek chipset. Which has very crappy driver support, which means that it is a āhit and missā. That means that I cannot guarantee they work. Iāve got myself a large set of dongles collected over the years, but if a specific dongle does not work after a kernel upgrade thereās not much I can do.
Can you send me feedback? So make sure youāve got the dongle configured, but also a connection over wire. And then send me feedback.
Below is a log from a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5. I have lost the ability to use this, it had been working for a few years. The log was generated while connected via ethernet. When I look to configure the Edimax dongle it does not appear, only the internal PI4 Wifi. I would use the internal however the performance is spotty when close to the other audio gear.
WIFI Dongle: Edimax EW-7811UTC ( I believe this uses the Realtek RTL8812AU chipset).
Digged up my ādongle boxā and Iāve got an Edimax AC600 myself. Itās indeed no longer working - and indeed directly related to the upgrade to the new kernel.
Iām going to fix this (you see: confidence ), so stay tuned.
