Long answer:
If a setting was enabled before invoking Roon Only mode, then it’ll remain enabled in Roon Only mode.
If a setting was disabled before invoking Roon Only mode, then it’ll remain disabled in Roon Only mode.
This is true for all settings except Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, AirPlay “Lumin Streaming”, Lumin app playlist control, Lumin app multi-room.
If you exclusively use Roon, I cannot think of a new firmware feature that will be useful to you any time soon. Other firmware fixes are not related to RAAT.
Lumin Roon Ready implementation has been the same for the last 26 months, except for supporting new hardware models and signal path display updates (now showing Leedh volume and balance control). There has been no functional change. This will likely remain to be the case in the near future, until Roon Labs release a newer RAAT SDK.
I may just be having a good listening night, but boy it’s all sounding fantastic right now. I have to say that the bass has not increased or decreased but somehow seems to have more texture. Also note additional presence in the phantom center image. Clarity seems at an all time high, though I don’t recall it being less than excellent. People are often quick to point to a lower noise floor. I haven’t heard a noise floor, period, in any decent gear since 1974, but I suppose that could account for a tiny boost in clarity. In any case I have no reason to move away from Roon Only mode.
This is a significant improvement in sound quality in my system.
We have sat down with my wife to listen back and forth to three songs (in and out of Roon only mode, Leedh volume on, no upsampling):
Yello, Touch Yello, The Expert (local FLAC 16 bit 44,1kHZ)
Bach/Hopkinson Smith, Sonata for solo violin (Arr. for Lute) (Qobuz stream FLAC 16 bit 44,1kHZ)
Cassandra Wilson, New Moon Daughter, Strange Fruit (local FLAC 24bit 192kHz)
We had plenty of subjective words to describe the improvement, but I think the one that was coming back was more “organic”.
All in all, this is making music more enjoyable in my system. Enjoying even more all the fine details some recordings are painting with music.
My wife is now tempted to try again Qobuz through Roon whilst she was not bothering before and just using the Spotify connect for ease.
My system:
Room dimensions 18m long by 10m large by 4m ceiling
Acoustically treated by a professional (specially to reduce mainly the RT60, because boundaries are not so much a problem due to the size of room)
Lumin T2 balanced analog to Trinnov ST2-HiFi processor balanced analog to ATC SCA2 preamp balanced analog to ATC SCM50 ASLT active speakers and ATC C4 subwoofer
I will keep the Roon Only mode on!
Warning: when reverting to standard mode with Leedh on, the volume is maxed out to 100! This doesn’t happen the other way around.
@wklie if I am using volume fixed setting in Roon (since my Lumin U1 mini is connected to a DAC ->Preamp) then Leedh on/off has no effect correct? since I’m not using the Mini to control volume.
Want to make sure I set it correctly before turning on ROON only mode.
If you use a preamp to control the volume, please turn off the Volume Control for the U1 Mini. The Leedh setting does not matter when volume control is off.
Call me skeptical… but it does sound better in this Roon only mode. I listen everyday in my office/audio room for hours on end so there are albums I’m very familiar with, and there’s just something there that is better. I wanna say the background is quieter and music is more spacious. but it definitely adds a tiny bit of goodness.
Hye Peter, Lumin T2 updates in Roonready modality, fantastic…confirm greater bass control, aperture 3D and depth of each instruments…great! i have roon life time license, thanks for your gift, appreciated.
You can (only) use Roon (app) to standby the Lumin in Roon Only. Lumin app can no longer sees the Lumin hardware in Roon only mode, so it can no longer be used for anything until a factory reset.
Switched to Roon Only Mode and I agree, the music sounds more live, more crisp. Will keep it.
Would be nice if Lumin could set up some sort of notification that would show up as a red mark on the app icon in IOS to indicate that a new firmware version is available. Alternately, provide a signup form or service where customers can get an email or text when a new firmware version is available for their Lumin device. Thanks!
