Mac mini or Raspberry as Endpoint

HI guys.

What would you recommend between the Pi4 B (8 GB) vs a 2014 Mac mini (with i5 2.60GHz & 8GB RAM & 1TB HDD). Funny enough, the Mac mini is about $20 cheaper than the Pi4.

Both will work.

The Pi has no fan - and no HDD - both of which can make a little noise.

The Pi can also run Ropieee, which then makes maintenance effortless.

Depending on what device you want to use for audio output, you can use a HAT on the Pi for output.

So crazy as it may sound, I’d suggest the Pi.

8G is way over the top for Ropieee, so at some point in the future when it’s easier to buy Pis, you could use the 8G for something else, and use a lower spec model for Ropieee.
