@AndersVinberg I’m just going to put another Mac Laptop I have lying around on the switch or install the Roon Server software on the Nuc I have to see. Running cable around the house…would not be ideal lol.
I live in a condo with solid concrete walls. Retrofitting Ethernet to the locations my wife allows would involve weeks of jackhammering so not possible. As it is a condo using the WiFi button in the menu bar I can see 30-50 other wireless networks so a challenging WiFi environment! Despite this WiFi 6 mesh routers with careful setup and monitoring worked fine. Since updating to a WiFi 7 system I have been amazed by the performance enhancement MLO technology facilitates, alas the only device I have that is WiFi 7 is an iPhone. I will update my MBP when they are released next week. Additionally the slow pace of network technology adoption by the HiFi manufacturers will mean it will be years before endpoints catch up. As such I will continue to place routers close to the endpoints and connect the endpoints to the routers with an Ethernet cable. Speed and latency with WiFi 7 MLO is as good as a 10 Gbps cable backhaul between the routers in my tests.
Sure it’s not ideal.
But for ten minutes?
Quick and easy and cheap.
I too have Apple Roon Server (M1 Mac Mini), control devices (multiple iPhones/ipads ) and endpoint devices ranging from high end DACs to Apple TVs & Raspberry Pis. The key difference (I suspect) is that I use a wired backbone, where only the control devices are on WiFi. I have exactly zero problems with stability & reliability. Firewalls are on, and private WiFi address is off in the WiFi network settings (it’s a well secured network). So my suspicion is that you have instability somewhere in your WiFi setup.
Circling back to this, I tested with a hardline connection on the Roon Server Device and it made no difference. So there’s that. Also, the problem has been much, much worse since the 15.1.1 update last week, to the point where Roon is now unusable on any wifi endpoint. I’m pretty close to giving up. I can’t run cables to every room of the the house and Roon is supposed to work over wifi…clearly it doesn’t anymore in a Mac/iOS/iPad OS environment. I certainly don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on streamers for every room and another dedicated Roon server.
I moved this from Uncategorized to Support so that actual Roon support takes a look at ti
Thank you!
