Describe the issue

Since Radio Paradise's streams returned after their outage yesterday, the metadata for both main and mellow mixes has been stuck. I've rebooted the Roon server to no avail. All other live radio stations with metadata are working fine.

Describe your network setup

BT Smart Hub, Netgear GS108 switch, all items (apart from remotes) directly connected via ethernet.

I should perhaps have added, beyond just one picture, the information that’s continually displayed for the two RP stations I use, in case that’s of help:-

Main Mix - Weak, by Vintage Culture
Mellow Mix - Here Comes the Sun, by George Harrison

The metadata service is based on work by @alec_eiffel who has had some problems recently and may not be as active as before.

Pinging him now and @vova to see if something can be restarted/rebooted.

In the meantime I have temporarily added an alternative flac stream to RP for you which contains metadata. In the past these streams could be unreliable and so they are not usually available.

Thanks Brian. I remember seeing Alec’s post back in the summer but had forgotten about it. Hopefully he’s ok.

Out of interest, is anyone elsee seeing ‘stuck’ metadata for mellow or main Radio Paradise mixes?
I’ve tried the streams added by @BrianW but the main mix seems to have got stuck too now.

The Metadata for Mellow correctly displayed Blueberry Hill to moment I clicked on the channel, then displayed Here comes the Sun, 1 min before Van Morrison stated playing…

Main channel is stuck showing Vintage Culture - Weak.

It’s basically broken.

In the post Brian linked to above, I suggested that (with the acquisition by Harman), perhaps now is the time to relieve Alex from his heroic work and bring all the metadata handling in-house so it can be properly maintained as (for me) radio metadata that also links to Qobuz/Tidal/Local content is one of the killer features of Roon. It’s disappointing that there doesn’t appear to have been any movement on this aspect.

The crap performance of the Radio Paradise is my main complaint about the service, as it undermines music discovery.

I appreciate that RP is a small island of musical interest, but just want to note that if I ever dump Roon, the RP metadata slap-dashery will be reason no.1.

a) I hadn’t realised the problem was specific to RP and that metadata for the other stations seems to work perfectly.

b) Adding a RP URL manually (like http://stream.radioparadise.com/flacm ) seems to work perfectly. (I couldn’t find the temp flac stream that Brian said that he’d added above)

It appears that the incorrect metadata service stream and the metadata from the ../flacm stream sometimes interact giving problems.

I have now removed the metadata service input to the RP streams altogether plus the ../flac stream, leaving only the ../flacm stream. I think that should fix things for now.

Apologies.

Looks like it’s working again on Main Mix.

Thanks!

@alec_eiffel has worked his magic and the metadata service is now correct on the RP stations, so I have reverted the streams to the preferred ones again.

There should be no difference from a user point of view.

Thank you Brian.
There is on slight difference: Radio Paradise audio streams broadcast in the form “Artist - Title” and I am showing “Artist - Title / Album” which provides a bit more info and seems to help Roon to match the title with the correct version/album.
Comments welcome on this.
I stil regret that Roon is not able to handle more than a “text” metadata, leaving on the side available data such as album cover, label, etc…

Many thanks for fixing this @alec_eiffel, much appreciated.

Yes, it’s a pity Roon only handles text metadata. I just bought a Wiim streamer and really like how the Wiim app instantly shows the album cover.

Hummmmmm

The Roon version of RP main mix seems to have stopped providing metadata links again whereas the manually added station http://stream.radioparadise.com/flacm provides metadata links just fine.

It works for me - are you still having trouble?

No, it’s working fine again now.
