Metal music discussion 🤘 [2021-11]

I’ve been shuffling Relapse Records’ 30 Year Anniversary Sampler which is (or at least was) a pay-what-you-want download from Bandcamp. A real bargain at 241 tracks and it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone.

Feeling the need for some good old fashioned Power Metal

Just purchased this to give it a listen thanks

241 Tracks, I’m never going to get through that

There are huge amount of good tracks in that one and even if I am mostly album listener that could actually be fun trip to Relapse catalog.

Did you check the size of that FLAC download? It must something like 20 normal albums :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes it’s 11GB :see_no_evil::roll_eyes:
I have renamed all the tracks using mp3tag and it took forever.

Why renaming?

I like to have my various artists albums in Track - Artist - Track name format

Also it required changes to the metadata as the band name’s are wrong. I’m a little on the spectrum like that

Ok, got it. I try not to edit too much and do it in Roon. But looking at recent db issues that is maybe not the best way and separate metadata tool would be better…

Did it come with any additional images/pdfs?

Nothing but the 241 tracks just waiting to be renamed as far as I saw.

I try to get the basic metadata and genre’s sorted before I import to Roon, but there was not a good reason besides I use Roon and Plex so it makes it easier for me to manage it

If you want it to be a little less work, check this out:

Thanks Uwe you are a gentleman, though I love the ease of use of mp3tag. It was the time the software tool to rewrite all the files and tags out not the time it took me to organise it.
But thank you sir regardless :+1:

While searching for Günther Schramm (very old German Schlager) I came across this album. I still have to listen to it more closely myself, but it might spark interest in this thread.

this is all even easier with Foobar2000…

You just define yourself how and where it should be copied/moved.

You can keep long metadata and set the length individually in the folder/file structure

$cut(%album artist%,40)\ [‘(’%date%‘)’ ]$cut(%album%,80)$num(%discnumber%,1)%tracknumber%. [$cut(%artist%,50) - ]$cut(%title%,50)

…all with one click on self-made buttons…

I have it set up for me to MP3TAG, File Manager, AlbumArtDownloader, ArtistArtDownloader, Rename and Move File, Stop, Delete File, Play, Love, Copy, Various Artist, Genre Piano, etc. as needed. Quicktagging while listening…

Foobar 2000 was my go-to music player and all in one music management toolkit so long ago I basically forgot about it :joy:

Yes Foobar offers more flexibility, but with the normal DUI (Default User Interface) you don’t get it nicer.

Foobar also offers me the Spotify integration (additional component) and there the images fly in with the simplaylist (additional component) from Spotify directly (CD + Artist). Of course, only as 640x640, but a first good stopping point for improvements, for example, with the AlbumArtistDownloader, which knows virtually every good cover page especially also in the metal area.

There is a bar graph on YouTube showing the sales of Metallica albums. The Black album surely has been successful even though many, at the time, listed it as a sell-out. The bass player (Jason) said “yes we sell out…every concert.”

This is absolutely fantastic - lot of variety, great sound, and just outstanding prog/alt metal. And they’ve definitely listened to a lot of SOAD!
