Hi everyone,
I recently moved from TIDAL to Qobuz in Roon, and while I’m enjoying the sound quality and overall experience, I’ve run into a pretty big frustration: I’m missing a surprising amount of back catalogue material.
Since the switch, I keep finding albums that simply aren’t available in Qobuz’s catalogue. I’ve already submitted quite a few requests through the Qobuz catalog request page, but it’s happening often enough that it’s starting to feel like a pattern rather than the occasional gap.
I’m trying to understand whether this is:
-
A known limitation of Qobuz’s catalogue
-
A regional licensing issue
-
Something Roon handles differently between services
-
Or just something that varies a lot depending on the genres you follow
So I’d really like to hear from others who’ve made the same switch.
Have you also noticed missing back‑catalogue items on Qobuz compared to TIDAL?
How do you deal with it, and does it improve over time?
Curious to hear your experiences.
Thanks,
Dennis
It’s a known thing with Qobuz. I noticed some for a long time, but upon trying to add 9,000 albums of all kinds (and having both services) I noted 200 were not on qobuz and of those 95 were on Tidal. Which across that test would be a 1% difference in content (and it’s unknown how many of the Qobuz albums added would have been missing on Tidal but I’m sure it would not have been zero and could conceivably be more than 95 although I would guess it would be fewer… maybe I could show the Qobuz library to soundiiz and find out). No service has everything.
Based on the fact Qobuz recently added the entire catalogues of Violet Cold and TWRP, which were both missing, I’d say there’s some evidence they’re working to make this better.
I have both Qobuz and Tidal subscriptions and access both via Roon. The two services coexist extremely well for me, both having selections that the other does not offer. Also, when one services temporarily loses the distribution rights to specific content, the other service almost always continues to have access. I will always run both Qobuz and Tidal to enjoy a more complete and cohesive streaming experience.
