Missing audio device for playback

Thanks for giving that a try @Gregory_Garbin.

Have you by chance made any updates to your network/ router in regard to IPv6 or IPv4 compatibility lately? It could be a case of other IPv4 devices being blocked on your network.

Lets also do a RAATServer refresh:

You can generate a new RAATServer instance following the same steps earlier, but this time you’d be renaming the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old” and restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder.

Thanks, Greg!

I have not personally performed any network or router updates, unless they have been performed by a third party such as my internet provider from whom I lease the home portal/router. I’m not sure how I would check this out.

As for the RAATServer suggestion, prior to beginning that - as I do before each time I implement any potential change - I double checked my devices to see if anything changed and, to my great surprise, my iPad appeared available to stream music, but not so for the iPhone. It was exactly as things were previously for years until about a month ago when the devices disappeared as options under Audio. Streaming through the iPad was possible as before. However, upon closing the iPad and reopening it, the iPad once again disappeared and was no longer an option.

I’m going to hold off on messing around with the RAATServer before hearing back from you on this latest development.

I would suggest just going ahead and try it. What Benjamin’s suggestion does is force the Roon Core to setup the network connections for each endpoint as though it were a brand new install. Since you are saving the original folder, ( renaming the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old” ), you can revert back if wanted.

I renamed the RAATServer as you requested and that did not affect a change.

However, turning off my VPN did accomplish this. I disabled my VPN on my non-desktop remote devices and in this manner I could visualize the option of using the device for playback. On my iMac, the VPN did not interfere with the ability to stream from the desktop speakers (something I never do).

Why would a VPN used ion an iPhone or iPad in my home WiFi network prevent them from being accessible and yet not be an issue with my iMac? And would you have any idea why using ARC within my home WiFI network would stream with the VPN activated on all three devices?

Hey @Gregory_Garbin,

The use of VPNs isn’t supported with Roon unfortunately, so my scope of support is limited here. I’m glad to hear things function properly without the VPN involved!

I’ve moved your thread to Tinkering as it falls outside of support. There are many here on community that do use VPNs, who may be able to provide further insight on your case. :+1:

When you turn on a VPN, it “moves” the phone or iPad to a different network, the one used by the VPN. And this is the first post in this entire thread where you mention a VPN. What kind of VPN is it?

I’ve been using ExpressVPN for several years - and the problem with the devices has only started within the last couple of months.

Why would the VPN act differently with a device vs a desktop computer - that is what is making me wonder about the VPN being the cause of the problem.
