Ok how is Most Played sort order weighted ? Is it pay total playcount across all tracks on an album? I am focusing on albums released this year and then sorting by most played to see if this goes by what I believe are the best albums this year. But I have 1 album that has 46 tracks that’s been played once one that sorts higher than ones with a play-count of 6? Makes no sense.
It’s a weighted mix of play counts and play time.
Hmmm play time is ridiculous, double albums then can easily have more playtime. Deeply flawed if you ask me. How can I see playtime ?
The precise weighting might be debatable, but I think fundamentally it makes sense. If only the play counts had an effect, then time spent on Wagner operas would never have a chance to get sorted up compared to catchy pop albums you throw on more often.
Your Top Albums uses play time only, I think. I don’t know about Roon library sorting.
That’s the point show what you play more not how long it’s on for which is a very different criteria, maybe average up the play-counts if not played a album all way through each time. If I played this comp twice it would eclipse everything else but it certainly isn’t my most played album. Just feels very wrong for me and I can’t sort my library how I want because of this. Another design decision that for me goes against the grain.
I’ve done a lot of silent playing to get favorite albums from pre-Roon times further up, and by my observations both aspects clearly seem to have an effect.
Not for Your Top Albums under What you have been listening to. It’s time only. Album sort is something different.
This should not be the case. Poor if we have to. I do wonder who’s responsible for some of these seemingly illogical choices.
Yes that’s why my Most Played 25 for me is pointless or any of those focuses.
Well, I would be unhappy if a certain time spent on long double albums counted much less than the same time spent on shorter albums just because I played them more often. To me, it’s most played, not most often played. It will never satisfy everyone and people can legitimately have different preferences, but I think people would also be unhappy if duration were not weighted in
No, in My Albums sort order by most played, which was the original question.
For the Most played top this year it shows again a compilation album I played all of it all the way through once and one disc of it twice. It baffles me why they think this is an accurate picture of my history, when I have played much shorter albums 8x that and no where to be seen.
What, getting the count up only by playing? Yes, that’s silly, there should be a number entry box
I made the statement that it’s time only in Your Top Albums. That’s what it is as the image I posted. Sometimes a question begs other information and answers.
Actually, I might be more interested is how long I listened to the Beatles vs The Rolling Stones, not how many times I played album X vs Y. It’s all relevant depending on the question you want to answer for your own edification.
Me thinks it’s Time for change.
Yes, I only told you what I was talking about
Exactly I think if there is only one way to sort, it needs to weight counts and duration to try and balance them somehow, or there would be endless complaints, too. (As you say, both statistics can be of interest at different times. Maybe there could be a slider to adjust weighting, or checkboxes to choose, but at some point it’s also getting a bit silly with the finickiness)
But I can’t get Roon to give me the correct answer in my scenario. It’s so far out of real world stats is laughable. I simply want to sort by what album I have played the most times and it cant do that simple thing.
If you primarily listen to full albums, theoretically, sorting songs by highest play count should help you determine which albums you have listened to most. ?
This was changed to the current system over half a decade ago. It was discussed by me in depth back then.
