Most played tracks

I was looking to see what my most played tracks have been this year and when getting the list and sorting by Plays it seems shows the amount of total plays not the plays in the past year, is this correct?

This obviously provides an inaccurate list as if I played a track only once in the last year but 100 times 2 years ago it tops the list even thought it was only played once this year.

In My Albums > Sort by most played, it is the sum total.

You can go to Home instead and there are options for showing most played by week, month, year, overall

Thanks for the reply but that doesn’t really solve my issue, I want to see how many times things were played in the past year (so basically 2024), I want to know what track I played the most in 2024 not what song I played in 2024 that I have played the most overall.

If I played a track 25 times in 2022 and 15 times in 2023 and only once in 2024 it will show as top of the list in songs played in the past year because it is the most played overall not the most in the past year.

Should be a column for Plays and Plays in the Selected Time Period.

I have Last.fm scrobbling setup and that works OK and gives me the info I want but it seems to have phantom plays where it shows some songs or albums with a high amount of plays that I haven’t played as much as it says and when I check on the scrobbles it shows for example 25 plays in a 5 or 6 hour period in the middle of the night when it wasn’t played and that skews the results so I’m not convinced of it’s accuracy, having said that it seems to not have had these in the past 3 or 4 months so maybe that’s fixed.

Not sure if you went to Home > Recent Listening > Most Played > By Year

Yes, but doesn’t have tracks just artists and albums.

To do this i created a smart playlist, told it which genres to include and set it to look at the last year, then bingo, a playlist showing tracks played in the last year. Sorting the playlist by plays then gives me the playlist in order of most played at the top descending.

I see. Can’t you scroll right to get tracks? I thought so but may well be wrong. Not home to test right now

No, it has Genres, Your top artists and Your top albums and no option to scroll on PC.

Thanks but same issue as in My Tracks the plays it shows is the all time plays not just the amount of plays in the past year.

Ok, I see your point.

I created a focus in “tracks” for “played in the last year” and then sorted the by the “plays” column (had to add the column to the list using the gear icon).

But the track count will be total plays in all years.

I think what many users are looking for is a way to create a list that only counts plays within 2024 (or a specific year)

AH, I think I see what you mean, hmm maybe it wont work…

If you want to “select” a year I think you will need to submit a feature request, AFAICT…

Yes exactly as I’ve done but the play count is all plays ever, not just plays in the last year, I have confirmed this by playing a track that wasn’t in the list of tracks played in the last year but I had previously played it 27 times then creating the list again and the track appears in the list with 28 plays.

So the list sorts the tracks as the most played tracks EVER that I played in the last year not the tracks with the most plays JUST in the last year.

Does that makes sense of what I want?

Let me put with an example, say in the past 5 years I’ve played “Let It Be” by The Beatles 100 times but only played it once in the past year, when I create the Focus for “played in the last year” and sort by “plays” it appears at the top of the list yet I only played it once in the last year, so it’s not the most played track of the last year.

So the play count should be related to the focus selected, so having the focus of the “Played in the last week” should have a “Plays” count for the past week, if the focus selected is “Played in the last day” should show only the amount of plays in the last 24 hours and if the focus is “Played in the last All Time” then the play count should be the all time count.

Yet another limitation of Roon’s Most played feature. These really feel like tacked on solutions without any thought of how someone would use this data. I am having similar issue with most played albums in that its all based on how much playtime its used, so is completely biased to long albums and multidisc collections not to how many times an album has actually been played.

I have fixed this for myself by using last.fm
All my tracks are scrobbled to this site - my main source of scrobbles is Roon + Spotify (car)

I`m then using Soundiz and link my last.fm account. Here I can create an automated playlist that gives me

top tracks last 30 days
top tracks last 90 days
top track last 365 days
etc

This is then synced to my tidal account that I can access in Roon.

Giving me a weekly update in Roon with my top tracks for a certain period.
Very convenient when I just want to play my top tracks and not a specific album.

But, this is a self-perpetuating situation. Don’t you want to listen to other music in your Roon library instead of the same tracks over and over?

It does not have to be either or.

Sometimes I want to listen to new music and then I usually use Roon Radio. Other times I want to play a specific album (I.e using Focus to pin point my mood).

Other times I want to play a self made playlist (I.e Summer Jam)

And then I don’t know what I want to listen to, then it’s great to have easy access to my most played tracks the past year.

Yes, exactly I said above I use last.fm but I don’t 100% trust it as I stated it shows phantom plays occasionally of tracks that it says were played multiple times in a short period, I don’t know if it’s a common issue or just me but it’s been happening for 10+ years over multiple devices and softwares but it seems to have been better this year so maybe it’s fixed.

But I play everything via Roon & ARC so it should be able to provide the relevant statistics.

That works if you’re using past time frame. If you’re using current time frame, it just self-perpetuates.
