Rene, do you run SE DSP’s ? If so, you should see 96k. Other titles may show 384 unfolded.

I always see 96kHz, since that’s what my MiniDSP outputs after room correcting. I guess this effectively blocks any MQA solution (if M ever gets around to supporting older systems), but I seriously doubt the impact of full fat MQA is equal to that of a nice Dirac correction filter…

Anything will play MQA it is fully backwards compatible. You only get the full benefits though if you have a MQA capable DAC that can properly decode the file…
And the 94/24 file is $15 and the MQA file is $19. If they persist with thiis pricing model then I think MQA will not take off.
The model and the format has the potential to be commercially successful if it is adopted by a streaming platform like TIDAL - it may take it from a narrow audiophile community to mass market which was the issue with SACD and DVD-A. For example my kids listen to Spotify off Bluetooth speakers for
conveneince - but they like the sound of TIDAL better - in this form SQ is more attainable - the future of quality audio is streaming which should make our NAS drives redundant - for example in the video world watching a show on Netflex at 4K means I do not have to download a High Def format or even buy it.

i have said this earlier in his thread. However how much more a month would you be willing to pay? If MQA is priced at nearly 30 percent above hires files how much will Tidal want for this over CD resolution streaming? Would you pay an extra 30 percent or an extra 50 percent a month for MQA? And don’t forget you need to buy a new DAC. Even though I have said I would be willing to pay a bit more for Tidal MQA if it was this much more I would not go for MQA until there was a lot of material available. I think many would be the same leaving it as a niche audiophile thing for a long time if it ever makes it at all.
I wonder how successful Netflix premium is?
Perhaps a dumb question, but one of the benefits of Roon is the decoding, DSP integration etc. is done server side leaving nothing for the DAC to do other than DA conversion. If MQA remains DAC side, the benefits of RAAT are lost, the DAC is doing heavier lifting (some say this negatively impacts SQ) and DSP solutions like DRC become impossible, or have I got it wrong?
If Tidal streams MQA - I will pay extra, and would look to buying a new DAC, maybe replace my musical fidelity in the other room (the hardware has not kept up with technology) and consolidate some of my other subscriptions - I can’t see them pricing it much more than HIFI - it will be difficult to market a substantive price increase - but this is all speculation and best for us to wait and see - I see all this as hopeful for hi fidelity in general terms.
The MQA DAC is designed to to the ‘Heavy Lifting’ as you call it. Roon would just pass the data through. Can’t see an issue here.

I bought this album for comparison, since it’s a nice recording that I know well and already own the 96/24 version of. The MQA version is actually $0,50 cheaper than 96/24. 
I thought that problem applied to computers, where the server and audio output live in the same box. I’ve never heard that idea applied to passive DACs like the 818v3. I think you’re barking up the wrong tree, but @brian may wish to clarify.
It’s true that you can’t do DRC or upsampling on an MQA file and have it be hardware decoded in the DAC. There are other possibilities (re software decoding) but they lie in the area of pure speculation.
Roon does not decode MQA so how is it going to know that it would decode to 24/96?
Additionally, you have not disabled the volume control. Any change of the signal (ie by modifying it to change volume) will destroy the MQA encoding. So you must disable the vol control.
