Angelo_Scozzarella:
majority of DACs on the market today are Sigma-Delta and therefore in fact convert everything into 1bit i.e. into DSD. But this conversion is carried out without great control possibilities and with the limited means , compared to an external computer, of the processor inside the DAC. The second reason is that the conversion to DSD should allow you to obtain a result to be transmitted directly to the DAC, which no longer performs any further conversion and therefore should work better.
It’s a very long thread at this point but all of these points are discussed here with specific DACs, there revisions, and why few chips / DACs will do what you describe but not most.
