Hello ,
I’m new to Roon and I’d very happy if you could help me with my struggle
I have the MF MX-DAC which isn’t an “MQA ready DAC”.
However , the manual says that anyway all input is processed in the DSD Domain inside which makes me wonder if i can use Roon with disabled “exclusive mode” and get s better quality signal .
while trying to play with it a bit - the DAC indicates a 192 kHZ sample rate when sending an MQA file straight by streaming Tidal’s MQA without “software unfolding” .
Hope someone can help me to get the desired sound signature.
All they are saying is that it is using a Sigma Delta DAC chip which decimates all incoming PCM to DSD. This is pretty common for most DACs these days and is nothing special.
Try it and see, but I’d guess that you would not. Exclusive mode means Roon can send audio data bit perfect and avoid OS/other program interference.
Your DAC indicates that "For PCM the data rate is always up sampled to 24/192 format, with DSD it’s left in native form. " This is something the DAC is doing, nothing to do with an MQA source. There maybe a way to turn on/off this upsampling.
You might want to try using Roon to upsample everything to DSD and see how that sounds. For MQA, the only way you can use that DAC to play MQA is if the player software does the 1st MQA unfold before feeding the result to the DAC.
