I’ve been experiencing slower speeds using my Netgear router but instead elected to use the 4 X faster band on my all in one CenturyLink Modem/Router. I can browse w/NP and speeds are north of 500Mbps. Roon runs fine on my Mac Studio vie ethernet (hardwired). I have a Mac Studio running Ventura 13.6,
I am running running iOS 17.0.2 on an iPad Air. I use a Small Green Computer STi5 which serves my Sonore Rendu SE connected via USB to a Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC. I have NO ISSUE at all using the Netgear channel running at only 150Mbps but wish to control the Roon Core using the 4 X faster CL channel but using CL Roon cannot find the core! I have unplugged all cords and restarted the DAC, Server and Streamer multiple times yet still, no Core can be found! Thanks for the help!
I’m not sure I fully understand what is connected to what in your setup but it sounds like you might have two different networks created by two wifi routers. That wouldn’t work as all Roon devices must be on the same network
I DO in fact have a CAT 6 cable running out from my modem to my Netgear Router so apparently I DO effectively have "two"networks connected. It struck me as odd behavior that I had no issue whatsoever surfing the web at extremely fast speeds but Roon was unable to find the core using the CenturyLink built in 5G channel. Switching to the Netgear all worked normally. So perhaps this accounts for the inability for Roon to discover the core using the CL channel. Odd, but perhaps “is what it is.”
I’d hoped to benefit from the considerably faster speeds but may not be possible as I do not want to reconfigure my entire network. I am also a Control4 customer and for whatever reason the techs advise using a stand-alone router for the benefit of Control4 - for whatever the reason. That was th purpose for purchasing the Nighthawk router, tbh. Thanks!
One router typically uses one network for both its wired and wifi part, at least by default. But two routers with wifi create two networks. But like I said I am not sure I understand how you connected things
OK, sorry for the confusion but let me try via 3 pics to illustrate my connection method. I have a Cat 6 cable running out of port 4 of my CenturyLink Modem/Router’s output INTO my Netgear’s router’s INTERNET port. This is what presumably provides ethernet hard wired as well as WiFi.
rnet (hardwired) as well as WiFi throughout the home. Every device in my HT is hard wired and gets north of 900Mbps. I hope this clears up the mystery, and pls see attached pics.
@Robert_Furstenberg, you have cascaded routers, each creating their own network. The connection between the routers is correct. However, Roon requires all devices (cabled or WiFi) to be on the same network/subnet (where each LAN IP address has the same sequence of aaa.bbb.ccc.nnn and the first aaa.bbb.ccc are identical for all connected devices).
There are a few options (I have two routers in my network also):
See if the CenturyLink router can be changed to bridge mode, so all router and firewall functions are managed by the Netgear router.
Turn off WiFi on the CenturyLink router. Connect and use only the Netgear WiFi and network connections so all devices are managed by the Netgear router. (this is how I use my two routers in my network).
Not recommended: Leave the CL WiFi on but never connect to it (and by leaving it on you have have inteference with the Netgear WiFi). Connect and use only the Netgear WiFi and network connections so all devices are managed by the Netgear router.
OK, and thanks for moving the topic fo rus. Appreciate it. I clearly had the #2 solution in place with another ISP provider previous to CenturyLink. But the CL tech did not adhere to my request at installation. Bug surprise. No one pays attention these days.
In any case, I would apply solution #2 per your suggestion. Are you of the belief this will not compromise my speed via ethernet or wifi and restore expected (500+Mbps speed via WIFi)? If so I think I can manage to figure out how to do this. Sadly, CL delivers great speeds but suffers from what is among the worst CS of any company doing business these days.
Ethernet should not be impacted, but not sure about WiFi as I don’t know the capabilites of either the CL router or the Netgear. If that is a higher-end Nighthawk and is in an unobstructed central location, you should see the same WiFi performance, especially if the CL’s is disabled.
tSo I actually was able to disable The Wi-Fi channels from the CenturyLink router. Naturally, I was hoping that that would do the trick but in fact the opposite happened and my speed dropped from 150 Mbps to 83 MB per second. Bummer.
In any case, the good news is that 150Mbps is sufficient to do the job, though north of 500 clearly better. I’ll have to live with it such as it is unless I want to invest in another Netgear plan of $50-$100 as the router is no longer under warranty. And even at that there are no assurances in advance that they will be able to provide me the speed I have come to expect. And hardly worth a service call to have a tech completely rewire my set up. I suppose I’ll just have to live with it. But thanks again for offering to help.
