Go to church and be ‘inflated’
I think the “casual” observer might think this is an audiophile trap….
My best friend, who is not into lossless high resolution music, seems to think so.
You now can start to find the better recording/mixing products like the ones done by Rudy van Gelder: Labels We Love – Impulse | The Skeptical Audiophile
Ironically, I have been thinking about trying software to adapt my room. So, I guess I’m not really done!
Barry, you nailed it!
The solution is quite obvious. Stop reading audio forums (including this one), remove the temptation to try new hardware. If you don’t know about the latest ‘tweak of the week’ over on audiophoolstyle.com you won’t be tempted to get hold of it to try.
I’m at the same ‘point’ as you now. I have nowhere ‘realistic’ to go, unless you regard as selling the house, car, wife & kids to buy a pair of Wilson Audio Alexx V as ‘realistic’
I have a lovely system that satisfies me, and simultaneously takes my breath-away every time I listen to it.
So, what have I done? I’ve ‘ditched’ my previous ‘obsession’ with gear/kit/GAS and I’m now focussed more and more on the music.
After all, that’s what all this BS is really about, yeah!?
Been trying to forget that for 20 years…
I’m satisfied with all the electronic components in our system setup but have been thinking about upgrading speakers, from the original B&W 600 series towers and side surrounds (10 + years old) to the new 700 s3 series towers, sides and center channel.
Our local Audio Video shop texted photos of the new B&W 803 D4 and 702 S3 speakers that arrived last week. I stopped by to demo them in their showroom with a McIntosh multi-channel setup for the speaker comparisons.
The demo started out with the 702’s, then the 803’s, and back to the 702’s again. Interesting to see the heavy 803’s rolled into and out of position. The new 702 S3’s with 800 series trickle down technology including the down firing port sounded great, as expected, then I heard the 800 series for the first time. Seemed like the atmosphere in the room changed, I was stunned.
The difference in sound was amazing with the same volume setting. A track was started with the 702’s then paused midway through while the amp was powered off/on for the swap to the 803’s, then the track was continued. I found it hard to believe the difference in the sound quality and room filling volume with nothing changed but the speakers. I never expected to hear that big of a difference. I’ll leave it at that.
I was very interested in upgrading to the new 702’s but after hearing the 803’s I’m screwed. The 803’s are 3 times the cost of the 702’s but definitively on my radar now.
Will have a home demo with each series before making a decision. Then I’m done.
Give this a try:-
Cheap, easy to use & unexpectedly good results. The Housecurve app is excellent.
Well, if your system is perfect now, what better conditions to start listening to the music? The system is but a carrier, the life is in the music itself
If you are feeling that about your system. Don’t use it at all for a week or so and then use it again and you will see again how good it sounds, stop reading the mags and listen to your music.
The last couple of months I’ve spent replacing my ca. 20 year old hifi with up to date gear. Now it’s time to enjoy and listen to music.
I’d recommend you do the same.
I’ll go against the flow.
For me Music listening and Gear searching fall in to different categories. While it is possible to replace one with another keeping the same category makes the switch easier. Music listening is an emotional and contemplative activity. Gear hunting is more of a decision making balancing budget, research, reviews and trials. I might be in the same point as for the moment upgrading to another price tag class of gear is a bit out of reach for me.
But you can transform the listening in to hunting. For the moment I’ll not buy gear but start buying music. That falls a bit closer from the category point of view. Research, listen, rate, decide on what to spend money. I know the numbers are not so high (money) but when you’ve got 50 versions for a composition money can reach gear tag.
Anyway, enjoy.
Unless I’ve missed something I don’t see you reference any brand other than cables. So no idea which amp, preamp, DAC and or streamer you’re feeding into your stream. Depending on streamer and DAC you could improve substantially. So more details are in order….
Home stereo sounds great?! Try this rabbit hole https://www.head-fi.org/
Years ago I had Nautilus 803’s for a bit and traded them and a few grand with a friend for a New/Unopened set if 803D’s, the low end Is much deeper and the mid and mid bass is very nice in comparison to the Nautilus…
I did demo the newer 803D and 802D And there was even more improvement… until I get a bigger room though I am staying with the the original 803D’s, anything bigger in my current room would be extreme overkill. Once I get the room I’d like to just skip the 802D and get 800D’s with an MC462.
If Imay, first appreciating that you’are seemingly content with your system, happy for you. I’ll share a tag line, a perspective. The Music”s the thing.; The equipment seduces. Enjoy the music!
