Continuing the discussion from My Year with Roon: Week 0:
Hey Everyone, Happy Friday, and welcome to week 1 of my Year with Roon, the forum series where I try and commit to Roon (and moreover one single streaming platform) for a whole year!
This week was primarily getting my 3 libraries, spread between Apple, YouTube, and Spotify, onto Qobuz, and from there getting things sorted out (removing extraneous songs, fixing unavailable ones, and so on…)
While I am primarily using ARC for this year being mostly in a different location than my servers location, I was able to remote into my server, which is just a glorified Mac Mini, using Parsec.
With that though, that brings up a good question for me: Why Can’t Roon’s desktop app or similar be accessed off the network? I mean if nothings stopping me from remote accessing my server, and port forwarding I assume would work on most computer devices (god I feel old saying it that way), why not find some way to merge the remote and ARC apps on mobile for instance, and moreover, add remote functionality on desktop and iPad, which would create makeshift ARC apps for both platforms?
Another issue I ran into, which is not fault of Roon, is my server going offline spontaneously due to my home network being a dingus (thanks spectrum). When that happened, my music, which I was streaming through Qobuz to being with, went completely offline, and my queue got cleared. I checked my phone to see that my server was offline, and unless I went into offline mode, I couldn’t access any of my music. That made me question one idea for the arc team and all: if I had were to have Qobuz and/or tidal installed on my phone, could there be some way to link both apps on my phone, so Qobuz/tidal streams are uninterrupted regardless of my servers network or port forwarding status? It might sound stupid, and I apologize if it doesn’t make sense, but I would like to see some effort to make qobuz streams and such more accessible through Roon, regardless of issues arising. Because if the Roon cloud is accessible but not the server itself, could qobuz servers still be accessed and all?
Who knows, but until next week my friends, I will leave this post as it is! Thanks for reading, and see you all next week for week 2!
