I have contacted NAD as to when the C700 V2 will finally be certified and they claim it's with you guys. Hence my question: When will it be done (ballpark)?
On another note: I find 2 things extremly disturbing: a) That you have to re-certify even an update to an already certified product (which apparently takes very long) and b) that there is no expert/developer mode which allows you to overwrite that draconian certification requirement. You could easily say: "Ok you are using expert mode, enable an uncertified device and hence you cannot expect any support from us" - easy. And more to the point: you at the very least could make it so that you allowed people like me to add the new device to the json database file on their own risk. But no you ship a certificate with it which lets me assume you checksum the bloody file and refuse to work afterwards if the certificates don't match. Sorry chaps this is really over the top. I didn't even try it after I found the certificate.
Long story short: When can I finally move off Airplay2 and use the product as expected. And please do not point the finger back at NAD. We as customers don't care whose fault this is, please just sort it out or be a little more open for people trying new hardware when it arrives and not let them wait forever.
It’s not the same hardware or software on the unit so of course it has to be certified again. It’s not a case of one thing fits all. Given NAD is the worst culprit for breaking Roon with their own updates.
Roon will only comment once a product has passed certification – as should the manufacturer. At that time the device is added to the website (Roon Partner pages) and announced on the blog.
This entire process is way too secretive and does not allow any early access by early adopters and thus frustrates customers trying to get the latest greatest, which is very sad. I have no idea what you guys are trying to protect but you should look how the free software community handles these things. If you continue this way you will inadvertently ruin an otherwise brilliant product with your very backward looking certification process.
And no, I simply do not believe that the entire hardware and more importantly software between the V1 and V2 is sooooo immensely different. Upshot is: nobody of us knows but economically it would not make sense to replace just everything.
Ultimately what this is, is an extremely protective certification process which helps nobody.
Oh and BTW nobody from Roon is even responding here; just some random guys from the community. Sorry chaps but good customer service looks way different.
All I’m doing, is relaying the approach Roon takes, and has stated previously in the forum.
Moreover, you do not know, and are not in a position to know what is happening behind closed doors. This has nothing to do with secrecy; no business I know shares everything with customers.
Nonetheless, it would seem that the certification process is very succesful. There are many devices certified, and more added every month. It also common for V1 and V2 products to be different. For example, some Naim and Cambridge products were only Roon capable from V2.
If a Roon Ready or Roon Tested device is needed, buy a currently certified product, which is publicly available information, or add a bridge device to connect a non-certified product.
Roon staff do read the Feedback category, but rarely comment.
