NAS advice request

All,
I’m looking for a NAS (not for use with roon) with the following characteristics (in order of importance):

  • silent
  • rack mount
  • priced for SOHO, not enterprise
  • can accept ssd storage

I’ve failed to find any that fit more than three of these criteria. If anyone has recommendations, I’d be grateful.

Thanks in advance

Rack mount and priced for SOHO maybe is a combination hard to find. While - in all fairness - every device is rack mountable if you throw 19" shelves into the equation.

If you are into tinkering you may want to check piNAS projects.

Apart from the above: Synology

I hadn’t thought about a pi project. Thanks very much.

Build your your own and use either Unraid or TrueNAS.

Why a NAS? They’re 20th Century tech. How much storage do you need?

Joel,
I was going to use it as a centralized back up tool for my family’s computers.

When I compared out the pricing, it turned out to be cheaper to just put drives on each one.

Thanks

Yeah, I’m not surprised.

What’s the 21st? I have a NAS for storage of all my music (around 5TB) plus automatic backups. Plus when the internet goes out, like it did two days ago when all of Santa Fe New Mexico was out due to some moron in a dump truck… I’m self sufficient.

What’s the alternative in the 21st century?
