Need advice please with HEGEL

No, there isn’t. Hegel has stated before that they are planning to publish release notes, but this will be done after the Roon update.

So one month into 2021:
Roon 1.8 release date announced - Check
Another Matrix Audio device Roon ready - Check
Hegel amps still not supporting Roon - Check
Irony still not dead - Check

 2021, once again, Hegel is making promises they won’t keep.

My guess is that they are shooting for an April 1 release date.

I should see if my wife is interested in buying half of an H390. That’s the amp I really want, but I can never justify the outlay.

You won’t regret it.

Unless of course you want Roon Readiness, in which case you will absolutely regret it.

Agreed. 100%

Use Hegel for what they’re good at - outstanding amplification. Put a decent streaming DAC or streamer + DAC in front of one and you will not go wrong. This fixation on Roon readiness is a distraction IMHO.

It was literally an advertised feature, and one which induced many people into actually making the purchase…

The latitude that some are giving Hegel for a failure to implement an advertised, key feature in these very expensive amps is astonishing. Just because you might not use Roon, or think there is a better alternative available, surely shouldn’t mean that people need to incur further cost to finally get what they paid for…?

They’re not very expensive amps in the grand scheme of things - they just happen to deliver outstanding sound quality for a not unreasonable price. And Roon Ready was never an advertised feature that was ever available right now. With Roon it is absolutely caveat emptor for any manufacturer, and lots of people have been duped because they didn’t do their homework. I mean if you’re gullible enough to buy a Lexus and don’t realize it’s nothing more than a pimped Toyota… Just do your homework. It’s not particularly difficult.

Not sure I follow the analogy, but if I buy a Lexus and am told that the V6 engine in it is going to be upgraded to a V8 in a few months because they are rolling out V8s across their entire range, you better believe I’m going to keep asking for my V8.

Do your homework, it’s not particularly difficult. It was advertised.

Did the update on my H390. I noticed now in ECO mode (standby) the network “tick” is no longer showing, only coming on when the amp is powered up? @Anders_Ertzeid

Hi Mark. Yes this is true. We did receive some complaints about it so it was removed in the latest update.

Really? I find it a huge help when troubleshooting over the phone with clients.

If you want to let go of that H390, I might be interested…

That’s not a great analogy. You can also just add a Pi with RoPieee and you’re Roon Ready for a couple hundred bucks at most.

But does it need to be there when the amplifier is “off” or in “standby”? It should be there when it is switched on.

As long as there’s no function to wake it up over LAN, I also don’t see a point of having the tick on when the amp is in standby.
