I’ve seen lots of threads about ARC not being able to playback bitperfect on Android DAPs. Sorry for the repeat question, but those threats all seem to be 1-2 years old now.
I was looking at the new generation of FiiO players, which advertise DAPS - Digital Audio Purification System. From the M23 product site:
“ensures that the original sample rate of the audio stream (both PCM and DSD) is preserved no matter if you are using FIIO Music, third-part apps, USB DAC mode, etc. By avoiding audio resampling, you can be sure the audio is that much closer to its original intent.”
This sounds to me like bit perfect playback for third-party apps - including Roon ARC - is very possible on these devices. Is that correct? Has anyone used one with ARC?
No the issue isn’t the DAP but the way ARC is coded. It doesn’t support native playback it is coded to resample to the native rate the DAC is represented to it. This could be 48/24 or higher but it’s not bit perfect. Until Roon build support for pass through then it won’t ever be. Basically it needs code to detect the full range the DAC can handle currently it doesn’t.
