Retiring (forced, run without a hiccup since 2017) 2012 Mac Mini that is maxed out at Catalina 10.15.8. Bought a new M4, 512Gb/16 Gb. Obviously I do the normal setup with the latest Roon Core release on the new Mini. Where are the DB files on the old machine and can I move them over since they came from and older release? If not then what? Any help much appreciated.
I think you need to do a backup on the old Mac mini then do a restore on new Mac.
Let’s make it more clear:
It needs a database backup taken with the old Roon server to restore to the new one.
If you don’t have a backup, you will need to create one. You can do this with the pre-2.65 version or install the legacy version.
However, note that you may upgrade your Mac to a newer version of macOS using OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
It turns out I still had my original Roonserver .dmg from 2019 (not sure version) but nothing else. Where can I get the other files? I want to get to the point where I can at least create a backup. I may try the Patcher but I’d like to get setup for the new mini first and then try it.
Do not use this installer as it is unlikely to be incompatible with your current database. Instead, download the pre-update installer, described in the release notes.
One important note: this release requires macOS 12 or later on Mac, and on Linux requires glibc 2.27 or later plus OpenSSL 1.1.1 or later. If you missed our earlier announcement and want to check whether your system is affected, more details are available in this post.
For Mac users who are not yet able to update to macOS 12 or later, we’re also making a pre-update installer available as a temporary option. This version will not receive future updates or security fixes, and may become incompatible with current Roon Remote or ARC versions over time. You can find the installer here.
Too late… I’ve hosed the DB I’m sure. I’ll rebuild it and the music files are on on a NAS anyway and Tidal has all the stuff I added from there. I sold a couple of thousand albums a year or so ago and had to move my system to a less than desirable room when we moved houses. I just kind of lost interest for awhile and then when I go to get back into it this happens! This is so amateur hour though, since when do you not check the OS before you force an update to an app that won’t run on it?
