Today is the release of the new Nick Cave album Wild God.
In Tidal I marked the album as favorite. Starting up Roon it synchronise with Tidal and (normally) the album pops up in Roon. Not today, I can’t find the album with Roon at all.
Trying to understand why. Who knows the clue?
Album is available thru roon with Qobuz. I don’t remember if Qobuz ever had the same sync issue as Tidal but I do remember being upset in the past not having new releases available on their first day.
It was like going to a record store, used to be Tuesdays in the US, on new release day and finding the album sold out. Luckily you could drive to another store and find it there.
Yes. In the end they can’t get a database dump from either service every 5 minutes and if it’s done daily then some album just won’t make it before deadline.
The strange thing is… I added the album to my collection in the Tidal app yesterday. This morning in Roon it appeared in ‘New releases for you’, although it should be in my library already, which isn’t the case.
Syncing the library in Roon’s streaming settings had no effect. I had to remove the album from my collection in Tidal and add it again to also add it to my Roon library.
(I could have added it directly in Roon, but I wondered why my actions in Tidal had no effect.)
Yes it does every week. It’s the nature of how Roon works with them. Each service has the same issue just with different material. Roon is not a window into the services database and servers. Roon hosts its own copy of each services database to allow the editing you can do and see all the versions etc. As some albums drop late differently per service they don’t make the scheduled sync for the Friday releases. They can’t sync the database all the time so it updates at the next scheduled sync. It’s always been like this and always will until they find a better way to get updates.
Something funny happened with this album from TIDAL. Normally we get the (embargoed) metadata many days in advance, but not for this album this week. I wonder if they changed something at the last minute? In any case, it’s available for streaming in TIDAL now.
It appears for me today, but I’m unable to add it to my library. If i try to I get an error message that says “Make sure your storage device is connected and check your internet connection or streaming service settings”. (There´s nothing wrong with those, it works with everything else, just not this album)
