New streamer from Cambridge Audio

I think it means there may have been some network trouble causing the problems.

@Kev67

Regarding radio and local music, I think that there may be an issue with the app. If it doesn’t reset, I suggest that you contact CA.

FWIW, Stream Magic just updated here, and it prompted me to re-register my CXNv2. That’s odd, given that they did all that support when the wifi began to fail. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I have a query in to CA about that.

Turns out it was a “restart” in the settings of Stream Magic that was required to fix this. I thought a power recycle would have did the same as restart but you live and learn.

Really enjoying the CXN100. Been using it with Roon and Audirvana mostly, although also getting use out of Chromecast which always annoyed me wasn’t available on the Azur 851N that I had.
For the first few days was using the CXN100 into my Mytek Brooklyn power amp but thought I would see how it performed by bypassing the DAC in the CXN100 and using the DAC in my Mytek Brooklyn Bridge and I think that maybe edges it. Hearing a deeper sound and the midrange seems more alive. CA have really excelled with this streamer and I’d heartily recommend it to anybody who is considering it.

I just set up my CXN100 yesterday. I think it fixed my main concerns with the CXNv2. The new dac/output sounds better and does not color the sound like the v2. The software also is snappier and the display is improved. The only downside is that the new software doesn’t allow everything to be controlled from the unit - you need to use the app.

I barely use my remote for controlling my V2. All through either Roon or StreamMagic.

I never used the remote with my 851N either, app or Roon for me too. I guess the remote was more practical if you also had other CA units like an amp or CD player?

Likewise, the remote for my v2 is in storage.

I agree: it would be nice to have a single remote that also controls the CD player. I have SACDs as well, which took me to the Sony UDP x800m2 and a digital connection to the CXNv2.

And so: to play a CD, I juggle my smartphone and Sony remote

I use the remote on my V2. Usually to turn on/off, play/pause, or skip tracks. It’s more convenient for me to do that than grab the phone or tablet, unlock it, open the app and then do those things.

My CXA 81 and CXC V2 share the same remote as my CXN V2. So I have 3 of them with 2 lying around being useless.

With the CXNv2 I enjoyed being able to occasionally pick web radio stations or tracks from my local library via the front display controls. Also unfortunately the CXN100 is skipping intermittently when playing CDs. I’m using the CXC connected to the CXN via coax and the CXN’s balanced outputs.

Do you get the same problem with unbalanced cabling?

Two, three years ago i fought with onboard wifi. I bought wifi extenders with ethernet ports. It has been rock solid and never fails. Just for future reference.

Collin, there is a guy over on AVFORUMS saying he has had problems with dropouts when playing CD’s via the CXN100. He posted quite a bit of info but summed up by saying “The short version is - when connected via either COAX or OPTICAL to the CXC CD Transport, I get constant dropouts.”
Now I know skips are probably not the same as dropouts, but bottom line is you are both going to be unhappy. He was told to raise a ticket with CA, not sure if he has. I guess after only being for sale for a week there are maybe not too many out their in the wild yet, but perhaps a firmware update required? Have you raised a ticket yourself?

Thanks. I raised a ticket today with CA but haven’t heard back yet. I mentioned I was using the balanced outputs to clarify I’m using the CXN’s DAC. Fingers crossed a solution is coming.

I’m not having issues with streaming. Just when using the CXC.

Yeah, the person on AVFORUM was only having problems with CD player as well, streaming was ok for him too. I guess a firmware fix is required. I guess there are always little bugs with new kit, the worst I ever encountered was with the ARCAM SA30 when it was launched about 4 years ago, countless issues for the first few months. It was a standing joke amongst posters that we were basically unpaid Beta testers for that unit. You wouldn’t have known it from the reviews though, not one reviewer mentioned anything which was amazing really. Be interesting to see if the CD problem for CXN100 is mentioned when the first reviews appear in the coming weeks.
I will hook up my CD player to the CXN100 at some point and try it out.

Sounds like a clocking issue if it’s on both optical and coaxial. I have a similar issue on my HibY R5 DAP when in ISB DAC mode audio skips but fine it’s on network and local SD card playback. They never fixed it :frowning:

Reviewers rarely mention any issues, can you guess why? Sometimes they may vaguely refer to the odd glitch with the assumption it will be fixed in a future firmware release.
One reviewer recently refused to receive a certain device from another manufacturer because he would have been bound to give it a good review and not say anything negative about it. Such morals are rare in this industry.

I wanted an SA30 and held off for a long time until the firmware was considered good (not saying great) and I love the sound of the Amp and Room Ready features that I use for hours everyday.
Arcam rightly deserves the stain on their reputation for the poor way of releasing the Amp in the condition it was released in, feature wise. There are many users on the various forums who have stated that they will not buy another Arcam amplifier after this experience.

Once the firmware was in a reasonable place they never put out another update for it, and it has been about 18 months since the last update.

They have released their new range and they are getting equally rave reviews to the SA30. Makes you wonder about these review’s when you can’t trust larger organisations and then you question individual reviewer’s as well. This is the world we live in now.
