Fully agree.
I hope that Roon never goes down the Apple or Amazon road.

I am not a native English speaker but the literal meaning of “forced” is not the only common one. I may be “forced to take the bus” if my car and bike breaks down, and everyone would understand that nobody is literally holding a gun to my head

@RobertW , I believe, and the majority of people/posts I see indicate there’s zero chance Apple music will ever make a deal with Roon. Their philosophy is to write it in-house. if they were actually that interested in music (which they’re not).

Apple Music is my backup to everything else, Roon, Tidal, Qobuz and even local-only because all my local music is uploaded to AM, albeit at 256 AAC. So I will always have Apple as long as they are around and from a personal perspective it would be great if it was integrated to Roon. But I’ll survive if it doesn’t happen, just like I’ll survive if I don’t get that F150 Lightning I’ve been salivating over.

No Tidal, no Qobuz here in Japan, which is a real PITA. I’ll look into KKBOX, hoping it is not only KPOP/JPOP.

Room in Japan has no streaming service available. Huge pain.

It a lot more than K-pop looking at their website. They claim 90 Million tracks to so on similar ground to Tidal and Qobuz I would imagine but with a stronger local music tastes as well.

I have it a quick glance, meta data is abysmally bad. I searched for one of my favorite Korean artist, Kim Doo Soo, it gives me two different artists with in total 2 albums :frowning:

Then I searched for my favorite Japanese artist, Tomokawa Kazuki, and got a depressing 2 albums (I have some around 20 CDs from him).

Might be good in KJPOP, something I cannot evaluate.

Via their app or in Roon?

Wikipedia says KKBox is Taiwanese, focusing on Mandarin, not Korean. That might explain the lack of Korean or Japanese artists?

KKBox is a Taiwanese streaming service provider. Main focus is Chinese songs namely Mandarin and Cantonese, and others. Roon selected them most probably for the Chinese metadata. And currently, its lossless streaming service is only available in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. I hope they will expand to other Asian countries too like Malaysia.

I’m late to this thread…but IMO…the clear service to add that would expand collections instead of just creating additional overlap…would be Nugs.net. High-def live music streams. New live shows being added daily. Lots of content that just isn’t available elsewhere…or that is delayed significantly before other platforms get it. I hope my fellow jam band aficionados will chime in and let Roon know that there is desire to add Nugs.

@cpachris , while I fully support your desire to expand on existing collections, according to their websites, neither Qobuz or Tidal is available in Taiwan. It appears quite obvious that Roon is expanding into other markets and I think it’s a brilliant idea.

While I have love in my heart for the 23 million in Taiwan that can’t access their HD streams through Roon…I have more love in my heart for the 350 million in the US that can’t access the best live music streaming platform ever created through their Roon interface.

Do we need to just pick one though? :stuck_out_tongue:

(For what it’s worth…that emoji was purely to earn a badge since I haven’t used one yet.)

But as explained many many times this isn’t just in Roons court. If Nugs don’t have the resources to do what Roon requires and are not open to allowing Roon integration it won’t happen. It’s a two way street. I would campaign with Nugs and badger them to look into Roon integration, if they are open to it then the rest will follow if it’s actually worth the integration.

@Simon_Arnold3 A “two way street” (your term) requires “two way badgering” (my term)…which is my intent in this forum. You are only seeing 1/2 the badgering.

However, your comment would equally apply to every single music streaming service that exists that Roon users might want added. It has nothing unique to do with Nugs.net, which is the point of my post. If rooting for your streaming service of choice is not valid in this thread…then there is no point to the thread.

Just saying its Nugs where it needs to start. First thing Roon execs say is to badger the service for them to integrate. Without that side it won’t happen ever regardles of how much you plug for it here. If you are then I hope you get your wish. I do see the need for Roon to expand out of the West if it’s to continue to grow and KKbOx is a good start.

This was a bit of a teaser thread , there had already been a statement concerning a new streaming service coming soon:", it was really a “guessing game thread” about who it would be !!

It was not meant as a list of Feature Requests for YOUR favourite stream, that has happened time and again need I say ad nauseum when it comes to Apple and Amazon.

The process of getting a new streaming service on board I would imagine is a long and complex one with much negotiation in view of the deep db integration required by Roon , not to mention language “barriers”

So “I want XXX” at the last minute is a bit pointless , you needed that request 18 months ago.

Alongside the request must go the availability of the service internationally, for eg I cannot get Qobuz in my country (poor me). Roon will also have a idea on that subject with a view to expanding into new markets , Taiwan/Asia in this case. This service is not available “in the west” , so for once the EU/US/UK don’t get everything :smiling_imp:

Just my 2p

My needs are mostly classical and I wish I had a better suggestion service. Tidal suggests primarily urban and pop and Roon Radio maddeningly plays Opera way too much despite my 2000 plus thumbs down.

So here’s my vote for ChatGBT integration !!!

No, seriously, I think the streaming services are all sneaking in the Atmos or 360 versions of music and videos…so if Roon wanted to go that direction, there are many choices. Tidal is already there on their own app. I suspect this is mostly for headphone and home theater players.

But, I think the pop is covered well currently and if that’s your thing, it should work well as is…but the classical music user interface needs has me hoping for Apple Classical/Roon. But most Rooners probably are not Apple.

So, I give up. Which one is it?
