No auto updates since some time in 2023

Hi

I have 3 issues, maybe related:

  1. No updates since a reflash with 2023.09 a year+ ago (I did this because I wasn’t getting updates before then)
  2. HTTP 500 errors when I try to make config changes in the web UI
  3. No longer playing since this week

I have an RPI4b rev1.1 which I reflashed with the Sep 2023 update a year ago, wired connection (wifi disabled). It is set to daily reboots, auto-updates on the stable channel, but hasn’t updated since the reflash I mentioned. Until this week, it has been working for playing music (Audiophonics AES HAT via UPnP). I don’t use Roon or other services (occasionally AirPlay). But not any longer.

Now I can get to the UI, but it is giving me HTTP 500 errors when I try to make changes. I can temporarily improve things by doing a reboot then making a settings change (e.g. update channel). With channel set to either Stable or Beta, I see no notification of new firmware available (installed version is XL 2023.09 1118, kernel 6.1.54-SPCKFSH-v8+).

I tried Firefox and Chrome from my PC to control.

I pretty sure (not 100%) that I haven’t made any Unifi router configuration changes since it was was last working.

OpenHome control points (PC and iPhone) see the player, but clicking Play does not work.

In the interface, when I try to Send Feedback, I get this message " Sending feedback has failed! This can be caused, for example, by not having internet connection or a firewall. "

Any ideas?

Thanks!

It might well be worth downloading an update and burning a new micro SD card.

Yes… again. I was rather hoping to find a way to have the auto updates working. Re-flashing didn’t solve this problem before.

Are you running some kind of special DNS resolver that might be blocking it? Or do you have an active firewall that is doing blocking.

I have never had an issue with auto updates, but have dipped in and out of Ropieee for the last 6 years. I have been firmly on board for the last 10 month’s and it has been pretty much perfect.

But I hope you reflashed with the latest version. And in that case… how are you able to verify that auto updates are(nt) working since there is no update in that case?

That the ‘send feedback’ is not working usually points out to something being wrong with the network connection.

Anyways, reflash with the latest version and make sure that it just works. We can then see what happens with the next update.

OK… I think I’m unravelling the problems.

Playback works with Airplay and UPnP other than my radio streams (so I think that there is a problem on the source side that explains the playback problem).

Updates - I re-flashed to discover that I had a 4GB SD card, which no longer allows updates. So I found a 16GB card and hopefully that is the simple explanation for this issue.

Thanks for your help, and sorry for the trouble. Donation made.
