I will have to give this a listen. Joe Pass’ playing is usually understated whereas Peterson’s playing is any but understated. Should be very interesting.

When has the music industry ever been fair to the actual musicians? Sure some of the big names can make big money but the vast majority of musicians struggle to get by. A few individuals buying a handful of recordings isn’t going to fix a badly broken system but it does allow those individuals to take the high ground in discussions like this. Sorry for being so crass but this the internet and anyone can say or claim whatever they like. Doesn’t mean that it’s true.
That’s why Zorn and many other independent artists took control of their distribution. It may be small in terms of overall volume, but it matters to them, and to those of us who care about supporting independents. I’m not “taking the high ground,” I’m reflecting my conversations with some of those artists. It’s their art, the “industry” is irrelevant to (most of) them given how easy it is to distribute via alternative channels today.
I fully understand. Having been a jazz fan for around 50 years I have heard over and over again about the plight of the struggling jazz musician in relation to the excesses of the popular musician. The Antonio Sanchez tweet would be even more informative if his paltry earnings from streaming were compared to that of a current top tier popular musician, like Adele.

Found a new copy on discogs and it’s now on its way to me. Not the most I’ve paid for a single CD, but also just about as much as the cheapest bottle of malt whisky I can buy here in BC

I’m sure I will - big fan of all of Sean Malone’s work. Had the privilege of seeing Cynic live, supporting Opeth. His passing was a terrible tragedy.
