And still waiting patiently for the new joint release on 27 Jan 2023 from him and Michael League
On the one track released so far , Michael League is playing the Oud.

A wonderful tonic for when one gets overwhelmed by the endless Christmas Muzak. An essential holiday collection that is luckily available on Tidal and Qobuz

Jazz Times: The Top 40 Jazz Albums of 2022 (40-31)

Thanks @Jazzfan_NJ
Haven’t heard a couple of those, but that website loading ads after each album is a serious headache…

As they say free isn’t really free.

I believe that all but three of the ten recordings listed in the article are available on Qobuz. The missing three being:
Janel Leppin Ensemble Volcanic Ash (Cuneiform)
Luke Stewart’s Silt Trio The Bottom (Cuneiform)
Jon Irabagon Rising Sun (Irabbagast)

Which of course means that while I’ve heard (or can hear) the other seven recordings, I haven’t heard anything from the above three. I believe that are some songs from these rouge recordings available on YouTube :smile:

I had a quick look on Spotify:

None of those albums are available and;
Janel Leppin has 98 Monthly Listens
Luke Stewart has 269 Monthly Listens
Jon Irabagon has 1321 Monthly Listens

Could explain the obscurity…

Ranking based on the number of monthly listens is the definition of the Grammy Awards, and this year most of jazz Grammy Awards will go to Christian McBride with one of two others going to Joey Alexander.

Perhaps the best recording of the second great Miles Davis Quintet. Hard to argue since this record does contain Wayne Shorter’s wonderful “Footprints”. What’s that you say, you’re not familiar with this album? Well don’t worry because it’s available in high resolution on both Qobuz and Tidal. Give it a listen and it might just prove to be the best present you’ll get for the holidays this year.
