Now playing some sweet Soul, R&B and Funk

His voice just can’t handle the high notes in the original material well, imho. Aging sucks sometimes.

Not sure if this is posted earlier.

Just started listening. Promising! Tidal labels it as “Electronic” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Surprising collaboration! Or maybe it isn’t when it comes to Albarn

A ballad

Yup, definitely a surprising collab - doesn’t grab me first listen. I expect something with a little more edge from Damon, guess we’ll see. :grinning:

Buscabulla
Regresa (2020)

Very hard to place this album into a specific category (Latin synth-pop/R&B I’d say). I think allmusic does a fair job with their explanation. Whatever this fusion may get called it’s all about the groove & it’s infectious.

Errr…this was early evening listening yesterday.

The Casablanca Story
Disco. :fist_right:

It’s a 4 disc set, with like hit after hit. The good thing about this compilation is that most of the tracks are the 12" (disco/extended) versions). Oh and what’s not included is any Kiss.

Thought I’d throw some unexpected and interesting off-beats at you.

Ray Charles backed by the Count Basie Orchestra (not Basie himself). Ray’s vocals are extraordinary and the band is greased swing.

This is Sam Cooke stripped down, sounding like it was recorded at 3am just for the musicians. Way good.

In keeping with the retro post above :sunglasses:, this is a solid R&B 60’s outing from a lesser known artist.

Here’s an awesome era-specific (late 60’s - early 70’s) funk compilation, from artists not likely known.

Cracker funk compilations here…I reacquainted myself with all three this afternoon as I was prepping for work tomorrow.

Funk Spectrum (series)

Funk I

Funk II

Funk III

I tend to agree with the allmusic reviews here, although I’d rate them equally. I’d say the second compilation has more wicked breakbeats & the final compilation has a few more known tracks or at least the artists such as Betty LaVette, Grand Funk Railroad and a funky 70’s number by B. B. King.

Thanks Simon,

Yup, I’ve been a fan of them, although not played them in a while. I haven’t seen that new album, will need to check it out. :sunglasses:
