One of my favourite Frankie Knuckles remixes, for any (soulful) house fans of the late great legend out there.
Classic.
1997 Grammy Award winner for the Best R&B Album.
Here are the albums he beat That’s some tough competition there.
Oleta Adams – Moving On
Maxwell – Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite
Curtis Mayfield – New World Order
Me’Shell NdegéOcello – Peace Beyond Passion
This is a fantastic album but everyone now realises Urban Hang Suite should have won. Thankfully the Recording Academy rewarded Maxwell later.
And yes, Tony Rich sounds identical to Babyface! Signed to Mr Edmonds label too. I always found that weird and thought maybe they were the actually same person under that hat.
Saw this talented young chap at a festival last year, which also featured Santana and The Doobie Brothers and Buddy Guy.
He was incredible live. It was very easy to see the crowd (waiting for Santana to hit the stage) were really digging him.
Great album.
I gotta share one more story about Gallant.
This is the track he was performing as I was walking past the main tent/stage.
I had never heard any of his songs before but as I heard this (walking past to go get a cold beverage) my eyes widened - I thought Prince had been resurrected !
In fact hundreds of people walking past the stage started to rush in to hear who the f%!k that was on stage I think that day, his fan base grew by at least 10,000, instantly.
Turn this track up loud. If you think this is good for a studio recording, the live performance was out of this world with his drummer and guitarist going bonkers with him.
What a weekend at Bluefest.
Nile Rogers and band were peaking. They had the crowd dancing non stop for 90 minutes.
If this band tours your area, do yourself a favour and see them.
Legendary.
It’s safe to say we all lost our minds when this Gentleman took the stage after Nile Rogers had whipped up a frenzy just 30 minutes earlier.
The energy this legend brings - just wow.
Love his new track. And loved Leon’s performance at Bluesfest this past weekend.
I’m sure Sam Cooke himself was dancing to this one.
I’m still trying to recover from Nile Rodger’s weekend performance at Bluesfest.
Classic.
The sample is Gladys Knight & the Pips “The Way We Were”, for those of you playing at home
Gorgeous new album, just released on Tidal.
