Rhythm & Blues
Naughty grown-up lyrics but the melodies are sublime.
The ladies have easily dominated the best new R&B albums of 2017 but luckily we have one by these talented Canadians to represent us lads ! An easily listen from start to finish.
I love the new R&B artists out here that are evolving the sound of my favourite genre but sometimes I just need some real lyrics sung by a legendary singer, songwriter and musician.
Wow. Once again the ladies continue to dominate the best new R&B albums of 2017.
Super talented artist.

Just finished binge watching this TV series. The soundtrack has a number of tracks not available to me on Tidal and I am not actually recommending it. Strangely enough I am suggesting you watch this. It is very much in the âblacksploitationâ style like the early Shaft films or latterly Foxy Brown. The plot is anchored around a fictitious Harlem nightclub and includes musical interludes by supposed performers in the club. So most episodes have a musical treat and there are also cameos by various Hip Hop and soul performers. Most poignant was a performance in the finale by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. It must have been one of her final performances as she had a stroke while watching the Presidential Election results in 2016 and passed away shortly afterwards.
And just to press home the point, this is the sound track to the film of her life story. Too fat, too black, too short and too old to succeed according to one A&R man from a major label. Sucker!
One of the pioneers of modern R&B music - moreso behind the scenes as songwriter and producer from the early 90âs onwards but he has some classic songs himself.
Ok I feel so embarrassed to have created an R&B and Soul thread and not have these guys yet.
I mean the number of HITS these guys produced is gobsmacking - a greatest hits disc like this doesnât do them justice. I think I need to go through their entire discog this week, slowly slowly lol
I hear their songs and melodies being sampled by many artists, even today.
One of the all time greats.
Love James Carr @Dick_Vliek â great call.
I find his version of âDark End Of The Streetâ incredibly affecting and sad, right up there with Etta Jamesâ âIâd Rather Go Blindâ for pure gut-punch heartbreak.
Guess you heard this one? Really creative sampling.
Hehe yes indeed. Daryllâs comment about it was hilarious and straight to the point:
âAfter a song is written, it belongs to the world and can be interpreted anyway they want. As long as I get paid, of course. Have fun and pay me.â

Excited to see Kelela live here in NYC tonight!
Oh wow ! Can you ask her to tour Australia
Gotta love this.
Channelling his inner Marvin Gaye with this great new track
I love the old classics as much as anybody but I love new music just as much.
And it always makes me smile to hear how R&B continues to evolve in itâs sound, into something new.
