NUC fan recommendations please

Hi all
Hopefully this is the best part of the forum to ask this. A friend has a secondhand NUC8i7BEH and it looks like the fan is on the way out. A clean might sort it but he wants to have a fan ready in case cleaning doesn’t work.
Any personal experience of which fans to look for, or to avoid?
Many thanks
Michael

I know that my answer does not exactly answer your question, but my recommendation is to move to a fanless case, Akasa for example.

Thanks for the suggestion but my friend’s only using it as a secondary Windows PC - he’s not a Roon user - and wouldn’t want to spend the sort of money that would cost.

Mines gone on mine just ordered a replacement for my model off Amazon. I would just Google the model and order one from where ever you prefer will cost about £20+

He’s just done that. I found him a link to a very good description of the procedure so hopefully that’ll be him sorted.

Mind sharing the link. My fans are constantly running on high.

Thank you Michael

Wow that’s seems pretty tedious just to air blow the fan. lol

It is. Unfortunately that’s Intel’s fault for burying the CPU fan like that!

I’ve got to jump in here and +1 moving to fanless, regardless of how the nuc is being used. I replaced 3 fans in my nuc over the years (running only ROCK) before finally moving to a fanless case. Each fan has had the dust buildup shown in the previous link. I blew out the first fan, but it takes about as much effort to clean the fan as to replace it and the fix didn’t last as long.

Maybe I’m partially at fault as I leave the music nuc on all the time. Anything mechanical like a fan has a rating expressed as MTBF, mean time before failure. So it is literally just a matter of time. Leave it running constantly and that failure will appear to come sooner.

And another saying go fanless.

The Akasa cases for the older machines tend to drop in price quite a bit.
