NUC ROCK failing after power down/up

Hi all,

I need help with a recurring issue I am having and I can not think of a solution.

I recently got a PlixiR Statement BDC NUC power supply to try.
I powered down my NUC7i5BNK by going to the ROCK web control page.
Plugged in the PlixiR and booted back up.

Then things got interesting.
The app could no longer see the Roon server (NUC), the Roon server web control page was status all o.k.
The NUC was on the network.

Once I restore from a back up everything is fine again.
I think the database is becoming currupt at either power down or up.
But why, what have I done?

I have used Roon on the same network for a long time now.
I recently replaced a MacMini with the NUC to test the PlixiR.

Network:
Draytek V2862 (Firewall is off, while troubleshooting)
Draytek P2261 (The NUC is connected to the 2nd one of these)
Ruckus ICX7150 (Melco is connected to this)
Ruckus R500

My network is around 10 years old and very stable.
Fibre between switches, 1GB SFPs.

Roon:
NUC7i5BNK (ROCK) - WD 4TB USB drive (Seperate PSU)
Melco N1Z (SMB Share)

The WD is formatted as OSX Journaled and I have found if I unplug it from the NUC it seems to show glimmers of hope - technical speak for the app connected for 10 seonds and then when straight to the theres a problem screen.

I am restoring from dropbox again!
What if I have a power cut?

Any extra info that you may need to help, just ask.

You changed power supplies. Don’t use it, use what came with the PC. PCs are not helped by linear power supplies at all. Inside any PC, the incoming power is further put through switching supplies on the motherboard.

My NUC powers down due to power cuts (sometimes 3 times a day !!) and restarts on power restore its been like this for 2 years without a db corruption (tempting fate :smiling_imp:)

It is unlikely to be the power outage per se unless you were very unlucky

One additional point to note (valid for your ROCK/NUC as well):

Nucleus supports USB drives pre-formatted as EXT2/3/4, VFAT/FAT32/FAT16/exFAT, NTFS, or HFS/HFS+. Note that HFS/HFS+ (also known as “Mac OS Journaled”) is read-only, which means that the Nucleus will not be able to make changes or store new music on the USB drive.

Thanks, I plan to change the connected drive to exFAT this weekend.
I normally foramt external drives in exFAT, I’m not sure why this one is in OSXJ.

I actually think it is something to do with the drive.
Without it connect I was abe to power down the NUC and restart without corruption.

I have also connected a 64gb USB stick for backup.
The restore only takes 5 mins now if it happens.

I hear what you are saying, but I also heard a huge difference in bass control.

Have you ever tried one yourself?
Or are you basing your comment on electronic engineering knowledge?

Either way is cool, just interested.

Eek, I assume you have a backup!

But of course. I setup Roon for Daily and keep 20 then i BU the BU folder weekly.

My partner is from South Africa, so even in the UK we have BU for everything.
Extreme BU is 1920’s picnic gramophone.
