I just bought NUC to install Roon ROCK but before that I wanted to update BIOS on it. However I have and issue. Currently it has bios version BECFL357.86A.0085.2020.1007.1917, 07.10.2020 and I wanted to update to newest BIOS 0092. First of all I have 2GB USB2.0 drive formated to FAT32 filesystem (not quick format). When I press F7 during startup and start updating I got an error “FW Update Fail in GetLastStatus”. Then NUC reboots back to Windows 10 with no issues.
Did anyone had this issue and could help me with updating bios?
If you are not experiencing any issue, I’d suggest you not to do the update due to the additional risk involved. Perhaps you may just try installing ROCK first.
If you must do it, use a different USB thumb drive, and re-download your BIOS image. Clear CMOS.

I have the same model NUC, and it’s been running for 3.5 years on the original firmware without issue. So, I’d agree with @wklie, and leave it as it is. A firmware update gone bad will brick the device.
Imagine your reverse gear does not work and you visit a garage, then mechanic replies: “drive only forward then”. Clearly there was an issue with BIOS update.
BIOS was 7 versions old, I like to keep everything up to date. I solved it by running BIOS Recovery on Visual BIOS. Took couple of minutes but after rebooting system took more then 5 minutes to start going again. This was a bit scary. However I successfully installed ROCK on it and it’s working fine.
